what makes anything in this world expensive is supply and demand. because they no longer make these tubes means the world supply is dwindling and prices go up accordingly.

the new sensor company has bought a lot of trade-marked old tube names like Mullard and such and are producing new tubes and using those old names. marketing genious.

Some kid out there is saying, "man I just got these new Mullard El34's for 50 bucks! Can you believe that?

Re: the holy grail of tubes

this is why I make amps that sound good with new production tubes. if in 20 years you can't find NOS tubes (and you probably won't for less than LARGE jack), you'll still be able to play my amps.

i'm more concerned with the new sensor problems they are having with that russian real estate developer (mafia?) guys and their plant there. Hopefully it gets worked out to our favor as guitarists. Otherwise, russian tubes might be a thing of the past.

I've got no issues with my GT KT66s............

I had some EH KT88s that worked very nicely in a Hiwatt :bigthumb:
