THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

I work for a medical supply company that deals with home health patients and equipment for the home. I have had the pleasure of meeting an old man who had cancer for 10 years. He was 88 years old and went by the nickname Stumpy for thirty years from a farming accident that mangled his right hand. I first met him six years ago when i set him up with equipment throught our company. He was an ornery old fart when i first ment him. He already lost both his sons to illness and wars. Well for the past six years i would come by on my off days and several times a week to play guitar for him. But thas not all. He owned a 1954 original issue Les Paul Goldtop, 1962 Gibson Les Paul SG, and a 1958 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins. I have ahd the pleasure of playing these guitars for him since he had no way to do so. I eventually was told by his wife that I was like a son to him with the time soent with him. Well Stumpy passed away about two weeks ago and I helped his wife settle all the funeral arrangments and played at his funeral an instrumental i came up with using his beloved goldtop. I just recieved a phone call from my office that an elderly lady dropped off three guitar cases to my secretary and called me and said to call this number. I called her about ten minutes ago and she said that there was no use for these now and that Stumpy had said to her to present me with all three of these rare gems before he passed on. So now I am grateful to stumpy and the proud owner of each of the immaculate guitars. I am the luckiest guy on earth right now. God bless you Stumpy and I will take great care of these instuments.

Definitely a mindblowing day.

what a crazy awesome story. that's really cool.

the cool part is not so much that you got the guitars, well nvm that is cool, but rather that he just gave them to you as a token of his gratitude and such. talk about karma

I'm glad to hear that you guys had such a close relationship. Seems like you both made each other's lives better. I sure those guitars will give you great memories for a long time.

Tell me about it.. It is really a heart touching subject.. It was so much more than music though it was a big part. He was a walking history book. He saw it all and live a life most of us have only read about. And the main thing he always said was never to take anyone or anything for granted and never take life for granted... I am i big fellow about six one 270lbs and when i called his wife I teared up a bit. definitely a day I will never forget

Re: THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

that's awesome bro....i get shivers just thinking about what it must be like. all of my grandparents are dead but i loved talking to them about their life stories. today seems so culturally...dead compared to the times that they lived in and have seen. think of the technology change that some of those people have seen. pre-vaccuum tubes to freakin computers! just crazy man.

And trust me... His army training as a you man came out strong in the care of these guitars.. THey are almost immaculate.. Had them polished and restrung every month even after his farming accident.. Kept in a cool dry enviroment.. He was very ticky about these jewel of instruments.

Unbelievable story.

You inherited a 54 Goltop, a 62 SG Custom, and a 58 Chet Atkins from an old man named "Stumpy" to whom you were like a surrogate son.

Don't take this to mean that I'm implying you are a liar, but I'd love to see some pics of these guitars for their rarity alone.

Not really a surrogate son.. Just someone who sat around and give him the time of day and much more than that... I could have done without these guitars.. I gained a great friendship with someone who knew he was gonna die. I serviced all his oxygen equipment and enteral foods.. he was ahell of a guy.. but i will go buy a digital camera in teh next few days and snap a few shots of them.. Most people look at these elderly people and luagh at them cause they are hunchback or move real slow.. or at deformities.. I have seen many people this business in many ways that would make most people cringe.. but i treat them like friends and care for them like my own family.. this is just something that blew my mind.. Something that i would have never expected in a million years

Add them to your homeowners' insurance today, not tomorrow, by the way.

Re: THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

That's just amazing man, I honestly cannot WAIT to see the pictures of these instruments... if there is ANY way possible it would be awesome to hear a soundclip of the Goldtop...

I think that would probably lead to many people changing their pants.
