I think the patb2 distortion sounds more like a black winter than a regular distortion. Its a bit thicker and more even sounding than a distortion. Even though it’s higher output it doesn’t sound it with the more balanced eq. I bet adding the side mags to the patb2 distortion would get even closer to a black winter. I used them both back to back for a while and thought they were close.
What I need is a black winter neck in a parallel axis format. That is the real magic pickup. The patb-1n works but it’s always kind of feels off when used with the patb2 distortion.
Has anyone tried the crazy 8? That one I should have bought during the original run.

I just installed a PATB-1 in the bridge of my HH Tele, and I’m really digging it so far. I had it in an HSS Strat before and it sounded good but was lacking some low-end thump (I’m pretty sure thats the guitar’s fault though). It seems like a great fit for the Tele so far.
As I have been following this thread, it made wonder if the Custom Shop could do a P90 with parallel axis poles. I don't know if the mounting screws for a soap bar would inhibit the poles, but I think that if they could incorporate them I would order a set my GJ² Arete.
I like two Original neck models as a set, or an Original neck with the Blues Saraceno bridge. The Original bridge is too warm for what I like my bridge pickup to sound like. The sets I described are basically PAF like in how they hit an amp, but a bit more of a blank slate in terms of e.q. The big thing is that the bottom end is cleaner.
after reading this thread I bought a used PATB-1b on Reverb. I saw some new ones as well. The Duncan Website says the PATB-3 is out of stock which kind of sucks, but ebay, reverb and other online music retailers should have some available.
