Looking at all these pointy guitars is makin' me drool.

I still need a decent 7 string, but cannot afford it 'til after tuition is paid through spring. -_-

The Ibanez RG, B.C. Rich Warlock, Virgin, Ignitor, Jackson Rhoads, King V, Warrior, and Kelly Star are all pretty much winning IMHO. It doesn't get much more metal than that handful of models. \m,/

I dont have to be better than somebody at something to be critical of them. If that was the rule there would be very little talk around here. He still isnt very metal.

Some guitars will always be suggestive of harder styles and other guitars it would seem that were typically used in other styles, are getting metal make overs.
LP, with EMGs, dark paint. Even the fender telecaster is being used in metal these days.

One thing I willo say is we need to get more specifiic here . The thread is going good IMO, and most people relaize these days what kind of "MOST" Metal means, as opposed to say, The Infamous Tele forum where geezers on there last leg go into fits if you say a stock Tele isnt metal, casue to them, Foghat is about as metal as it gets, and they've only ever played JCM 800's , and have never heard of Bogner or or a Mesa Recto.
You need to say that a 'Modified tele' is metal, like a John 5.Although a few clowns here insist on trying to do modern metal with stock Lesters and Starts and teles, the idea is flying in the face of progress, and patently absurd .

Neo claissical progressive rock. Its still ol school heavy metal, not modern high gain amplified speed thrash, death, black, norwegian or modern grunge metal.

I basically did say that, guitars traditionally used for other styles are getting refitted with hotter pups, new paint and being rock by hard style players.

I hear what you are saying though and those really aren't the same guitars.

Well you have to consider it when it was put to media. When it was tracked it was heavy metal.
Just because you have more gain in the music and are playing faster doesn't suddenly change older metal into progressive rock.
The fact still remains that entire style of neoclassical heavy metal basically originated with him. Saying he isn't very metal because you have newer bands is sort of missing the mark IMO.

Without that Ol' school heavy metal you would not have the modern metal.

Anyway, back to guitars.

^ don't think the Hammet tape hand will guard against that.....or would it!? An aluminum hm strat qualify? There's a guy on the hm strat forum that milled one.

Yeah, most teles that do metal are modified, but really I think it is the playing that creates the metal sound than anything. I mean, Tony Iommi used SGs with P90s with an early Laney stack (some of the the best music was not recorded with the best gear. Not saying his gear is bad at all though) and us metal guys still go nuts for his tone.

I somehow managed to get metal with my tele when it had stock singles, but then I put a SD Hotrails in the bridge. If I would of known about GFS back then I would have tried one of their neovin tele pups (either Hard Vintage or Power Rock).

ya know. Ive been rather stubborn on this, but maybe I need to reappraise this. Its hard to argue Ioomi and early Sabbath didnt have as much energy as any modern drop tuned high gain amplified speed metal band.Also, the level of excecution was great, and the compositionial skills were of course epic .
I just can see where just becasue you add Bogners, Rectos,Deizels , or insert your favorite high gain amp, and modern Metal Pickups, and Dedicated Metal guitars with jumbo frets and flat radii, that it alters the fundamental "metalness", and I suppose thats a big sticking point. Its a matter of logistics guess.Its modern technology, not so much the Metal skill/accumen of the guys who were playing it.

Yeah, but there is also nothing wrong with using the modern high gain amps/jumbo frets/flat fretboard, modern pup setups either. Like Tony has also changed quite a bit from the early setup, using his own signature Laney which is high gain, custom humbuckers, custom color/design. You still have a very valid point to an extent. :)
