I admit it right now Mike, I was wrong, this amp sounds killer!

They do a one over of it on the new Guitar World disc and it sounds great. I have no idea how to rip it and upload it to youtube or I would.

Re: The New 5150III amp.

I don't know why they don't do away with the discs and just put the videos on the site like they started doing with Guitar One before its demise - hell, it's the same owner.

Yeah, I read that entire interview/review yesterday and it does make ya start to pant like a thirsty dog, doesn't it?

They had a white one at Sam Ash the other day. $1999 for the head and $999 for the cab.

Re: The New 5150III amp.

wonder if you can get the evh celestion speakers seperately....

i wonder what speaker they are based on?

hmmm

Re: The New 5150III amp.

I want to play one I have to wonder though will it keep up with my Bruce Zinky designed Fender Prosonic. A Soldano SLO won't so can Fender design a real MONSTER with out Zinky inquiring minds :32: want to know:cool2::naughty:

Re: The New 5150III amp.

Sept. 07. Has a really in depth w/ Eddie and Matt Bruck about the amp as well.

I have no idea. I have come to expect it anymore though.

I'm not personally looking at it from the point of view of trying to capture his tone. To be honest I've never been an "EdHead" nor am I a real big fan of VH in general. That doesn't mean that I don't respect the man for what he's accomplished or I will say that guy doesn't have a good set of ears.

From a clip perspective, I think the new 5150 smokes the prior 2. It sounds great on the clips and sounds to have alot of potential. Where as I didn't overly care for the PV models. They had their strong points and I'm not bashing them. This new one just seems like it's an all around better amp.

Obviously that's just a clip that GW did and there's no doubt some polish in there somewhere so I really can't say it's a great amp until I've played one.

Judging by the clip, it's the harshest, thinnest amp on the planet.

I think the 5150 and 5150II come closer with the right guitars and playing...

Infact I recorded this with my kramer for demonstration: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=685825&songID=5508700

Turn it up fairly loud, my recordings seem to require that :\.

hmm, maybe go away and have another listen to the record, bud.

There is a guy who posts on here who gets very close with a 5150 and cab with greenbacks, though...

-That's probably what Ed's celestion is: some kind of custom greenback.

The new amp sounds good. I wonder what it'll sound like next to a Splawn Quick Rod, as that's one brown sounding amp too. I personally couldn't own a Splawn as I'd just end up playing Edward-esque stuff all the time, so I probably won't be looking at the new fender/evh either. But I'm sure it'll be fender's first big selling heavy rock amp...

Well yea, sure if I could turn the amp up it'd sound pretty much identical, but it's 2am. It still sounds miles closer than that 5150III IMO.

The "unchained" sound requires a lot of air to be pushed.

Sept 07 ? So, it just came out?? Whos on the cover so I can try and find it?? Thanks!

Well, I think the guy is demonstrating an EVH amp. Everyone wants to know if it does EVH's sounds. So he has to play the riffs to demonstrate.. I dont think he is trying to be a poseur.

Sounded to me like there was a huge reverb and obviously other effects being used. I wish they would have disclosed that .(did mention the delay on top) But the clip alone makes it appear that the amp itself does all that.
I hope I can play one.. Most likely at that price the stores here wont allow you to breath on them if they carry them at all..

Ive always heard great things about Fender's Tone master amp.. So, they CAN make a rock amp..

Re: The New 5150III amp.

Thats one of the best amps ive heard to date, but there is something missing especially from the high gain channel. BALLS! It sounds good, but the amp almost sounds like it could be one channel with a gain knob that goes from clean to high gain.. i didnt hear any different flavors from each channel. I definately think the speakers are some sort of greenback mod.. sounds a little more clinical in the highs and tighter on the lows.

Mephis, i suggest getting a good OD pedal and hitting the crunch channel for any EVH sound with that amp. I just hear too much gain on that clip. oh, and maybe look at a tab if you need.

Re: The New 5150III amp.

I used one at GC and was VERY IMPRESSED!

It's what I wished the 5150 I & II had been. We can't comment on reliability, but I never found the Peavey to "brown out" at all, IMHO.

Decent cleans, and it REALLY RESPONDS TO VOLUME changes in picking and vol knob in channel 2. Channel 3 is VERY saturated, but very nice.

It's toneful. With the EVH Speakers it's got good top but it's very warm in the bottom. A bit middy/higher voiced than a Bogner XTC, and the gain is smooth.

I think it's a winner, and I would buy one and use it with a rock band,or maybe even a blues band or pop rock band. Yup, I said it!

The amp sounded fine. The demonstration could of done without all the effects but you could tell under all of that it sounds much more like vintage Van Halen than the previous two versions of the 5150.

Yep, that nails the modern scooped Unchained tone:

But sounds nothing like this though:

From all the 5150 and 5150II's I've heard, while they have enormous girth and sizzle, they don't seem to have the cut and browness of Ed's Old Plexi. I think they sound better for things heavier than Van Halen.

I dont want to sound like Ed, I just want EIGHT 12ax7's lined up in a row ready to torture the output tubes mercilessly at the drop of a pick:saeek:
