The New 5150III amp.

Re: The New 5150III amp.

Funny thing is that i have thought about that a few times, on how some amps are too 'tame' to cut through in the mix sometimes. Maybe why Marshalls sound so good in a band context instead of by themselves.

I still think that it is hilarious that Ed even thought about making a personalized amp after all these guys were coping his sound. He could of just gone around testing all those amps.

Im sure though he has some CAE's Bogners etc.. stashed around at home after making roadies secretly go out and buy him those amps. hehehe

Re: The New 5150III amp.

What most want on the road is a good workhorse amp, guitars, pedals, nothing fancy, just solid proven stuff.
Ed has alot of stuff, all those old pictures of his guitars and such, well he has plenty.
So does most of us who has played for a long time, and on top of that, Ed has money to buy all kinds of goodies.
All the fancy goodies are good for studio or other jobs, but the workhorses are for everyday work.

Re: The New 5150III amp.

Here's my review from another forum

I spent a good deal of time with the 5150 III halfstack in a demo room turned up pretty loud, using a custom shop Fender strat, a Les Paul custom, a Les Paul classic, and a Dean explorer with Dimebucker pickups. In short, it sounds very tight, but kinda flat to my ears - I kept wanting to get more girth out of the sound. The character is like the 5150 (not the 5150 II) but smoother, less harsh. The first channel is a good clean, not the best. The second channel does some great plexi sounds, great definition and shine but no saturation. And then channel three is the improved Peavey sound.

I was a bit disappointed with the humbucker guitars through it,. The Les Paul sound spectrum is already compressed compared to a lot of guitars, with most of the sound in the lower-mid range... the amp didn't seem to help "fill out" the LP tone, if that makes any sense. The strat on the other hand sounded fuller in comparison through it, particularly in channel 2 playing non-saturated rock tones.

I'm using the Mesa RK, MkIV, Diezel VH4, VHT UltraLead for comparison. For playstyle I like heavy crunchy rhythm tones and juicy shredding lead tones. After owning the amps listed above, I can't say I felt tempted to buy a EVH III.

So there's my 5-cent HarmonyCentral-ish review - Consequently another guy was in the room watching while I was playing; he was blown away and bought the amp right after I put the guitar down. So *shrug*..... take my opinions with a grain of salt. :)

Did you get a commision ?

Sounded good enough to me that I would consider it if I were in the market for such a thing.

Re: The New 5150III amp.

haha

well it sounded just like the clips/videos when playing the EVH-type crazy leads, not a bad thing

I just can't imagine using one over the other amps out there for metal
