I think they should have just gone with Rich-lite instead of rosewood on this one. Now it looks like Gibson is faking Chinese Gibson fakes - LOL.

Haha my first thought EXACTY. If somebody threw a tone knob on there and put it on eBay it would start a few "Warning: Fake!" threads around the Internet.

Chambered Les Pauls are one thing, but I would challenge any member of this forum to pick out a traditional "weight relieved" Les Paul from a non-weight relieved one based on tone in a blind test.

IMO, Gibson keeps making this one mistake. Les Paul himself wanted Ebony fingerboards and pearl block inlays on the Custom models as they were supposed to have the "tuxedo" look- it was supposed to be the top of the line distinction. The other option is a Rosewood board with acrylic pearloid trapezoid inlays. Gibson should not mix the 2.
Every cheap Les Paul copy- from my $80 first Memphis Les Paul copy- to every Les Paul ripoff- has mixed the 2 together- with rosewood board, pearloid block inlays, or ebony board with pearloid block inlays. The bakelite and pearl blocks would be better- but I'd never spend $1500 for a guitar that looks like a Chinese knockoff

I cant tell from the picture, what is where the other knob should be?? I prefer the traditional 4 knob setup. I had an incredible LTD ec400at and sold it cuz I missed the extra knob. I HATE myself for letting that one go. It was a monster...

one with P90s is a great idea, but i don't think staples would fit in that body unfortunately

Some people , myself included , will totally dig this setup....lighter, easier to play for long hrs, leather strap to combat neck dive and/or weights in the control cavity..good to go. What I WOULD do to it, is make it a traditional looking 4 knob setup, ditch the coil tap if that's what it is, and put in the switch pots for that...Maybe eventually also go all nickle hardware...possibilities....

If this was a cross between an solid SG body (thickness) and a Les Paul shape it would be pretty cool. I don't dig the "weight relief" if it is the the same hacking they did to the Standards. I am also leery they went with the circuit board electronics they put in the Standards. I would love for this guitar to prove me wrong but I fear it won't. The way I see it is Gibson tried to make a PRS and failed.

Gibson's new slogan should be "Damned if we do. Damned if we don't."
People complain that they don't make changes so they make some and those same people complain and say they should stick to the old way.
Sadly, it's usually folks who you'd think would be a bit more open-minded about such things. Guess not.
I for one would like to try this. Lighter guitars appeal to me. 8lbs is about the max I'd want slung on my shoulders for long periods. This looks like a cool LP option.

Its not that your crazy or not its that some people like a heavy guitar some not so much you know different strokes for different folks and all that....
