The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

Yeah, that was a serious comment. It's not something I make too much of, but it's part of the package that goes with my grade and living and working in Saudi. He basically does domestic work for us, cleaning, ironing and so on. I think he's been with us for the last 5 years now.

You were on here looking for cheap deals on pickups, yet you have a Bangladeshi servant boy?!! I believe this smiley has NEVER been more representative of a post:

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

in the end its just a norlin era les paul.

Exactly. Glad to finally read that there are others here that find this story just a bit disturbing...

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

I don't know, man... maybe I have an anger problem but you either get the screaming at me for 20 minutes or the replacement or the smashing all my gear in retaliation but not all three. And actually I feel a fair retribution since he's a son would be to pay to have it repaired by the likes of GuitarDoc.

Other than that... yeah. It's none of my business so I'll keep my mouth shut.

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

well here is a bit of back story about my brother and father. My brother in the past has pushed his luck many times. This goes from selling one of my fathers guitars on ebay without him knowing it a few years ago. To getting angry with my parents for not allowing him to borrow (he doesnt work) 15k for a used car and when they said no he took my fathers Martin to the driveway and smashing it when he wasnt home.

The kid is just a jerk when he wants to be. Honestly if he was my kid he would have been out of the house years ago. Hes at the age now where hes going to throw a temper tantrum at the wrong person and get his head smashed.

so as far as people thinking its disturbing he wont go home because hes scared think of this, If you had someone that constantly destroys your stuff steals from you and makes threats to you in your own home then to bad hes lucky that he can even have a roof over his head. To make it even better my mother called me a bit ago and told me my older sister kicked him out because she caught him stealing from her to buy dope.

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

Um, Mom is the problem. He needs to be out on his ass [period].

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

Actually mom is the one that advised him to find another place to stay for a while until the old man calms down not the old man, She felt bad but after the little situation at my sisters she told him he needs to find another place to live and not to come around until he has his life together.

The old man is justified to be pissed off and my mother is justified to ask him to leave he should have been out a long time ago. He called here and my wife said no you cant stay here, a little tough love.

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

actually izzo he really needs to get a real dose of reality. Lets see how his so called good friends come to his aid when he's broke and has to sleep in his car.. He always has had it easy and this is the result of parents giving a child everything they want when they want it.

He called my wife a ***** after she said no he cant stay here and now i am going to make it known that if i ever see him again hes going to have a real bad day...

Oh plus my mom shut his cell off :)

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

I wonder why no one has mentioned HOME INSURANCE yet. Most policies have clauses that cover crap like this...

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

WTF is wrong with people? If that were my kid over the age of 18 and he stole one of my guitars to sell on Ebay, he'd have been out of the house right then. Then if he some how got the opportunity to smash another guitar, especially a Martin, I would probably knock the poo out of him.

I feel for you and your family though man. I know of something similar going on in a family I personally know and it has not been a fun ride. Especially me being stuck in the middle. I have to wonder how much of his 'activity" like this is drug related. If you even question that part of it all and you care for him at all, get his ass checked into rehab as soon as possible.

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

I am in the camp that dad acted way over the top. If my some broke the headstock of my guitar would I be pissed? Well yeah! But as a parent o would teach him a lesson. Probably give home extra work around the house to earn it back. But fact of the matter is I absolutely love guitars.... But I love my family more.

At the same time... He is 20 and plays guitar. He should of known better. He has not been taught enough respect. Time he learns it.

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

SAD THING IS I KNOW, and i have known for a long time. The problem is that you never want to see someone you love go down this road but truth is i cant see it all ending well.

As much as i want to grab him as shake him and say wake up your F;n up your life i think its going to take something tragic to wake him up...

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

Well, I take it back. I totally understand after that story about the Martin and what have you! No offense, but the fellow sounds like he has some serious behavioral issues that need professional mental care. He won't ever get any better if he is kept from falling flat on his face. Harsh, but very true IME. Enabling him to continue pulling stunts on the family will only make him worse. There comes a point when you have to just start saying "hell no" to people for their own good. Good on your wife. She knows what's up. Keep listening to her and being dead honest with your brother. My two cents.

Boogie Bill, it's certainly devalued, but by $2,000? The whole guitar probably isn't reliably worth a whole lot more than that.

Well, here's my thought on that.

Les Pauls from 1978 are not rare, by any means. But lately, I'm seeing nice, well-cared for Customs from this era getting up into the mid $4000 range, as they become "vintage".

Yes, he can get it fixed, and depending on the skill of the luthier and the type of break, it could be a nearly invisible. But it will still be a Les Paul with a broken headstock. Some buyers wouldn't care if a Gibson has a broken headstock (I have two Supremes with breaks), while most player would prefer to have one that is unbroken. Since there are quite a few of this model out there for sale, a guitar with a headstock break is going to be treated severely in the market place.

A truly vintage piece, like an original '59 Sunburst, with a h/s break will hardly be discounted, as the vintage bursts are so rare. But with so many of the Seventies-era guitars available, a buyer can be more selective, and that will drive the price down on broken guitars.

A lot depends on the area, but I can make a case that this broken Custom has been heavily de-valued.

BTW and FYI--your homeowner's insurance policy MAY cover an incident like this, but not likely. If you've EVER made money with your gear, many insurers will consider it personal business property and not cover the loss. Check with your agent--you may need a special rider, or a specific insurance policy to cover your instruments and your gear. Look for an "all-risk", world-wide policy. You'll want to have the instrument covered no matter where you go--for fire, theft, flood, quake, tornado, etc.--for any risk, including "unnamed perils".
