The one piece of gear you would not sell?

I have been thinking of this for some time now and have to ask what is the one piece of gear that you would never dream of selling?

I personally would have a lot of difficulty in being able to say what would be the one piece of gear that I would not sell. Given that I have a fair collection of guitars, basses, and amps Many many years ago I foolishly sold my '62 strat and also my '59 LP as well as my amps (Marshall and Hiwatt stacks) but that is another story.

So how about you would you be able to say what you would never sell or would you have the same difficulty that I would have? Just interested to know your views.

Mmm well I don't have much gear at all!
But something I would hold back from selling is something that was made a while ago, like, vintage guitars... and worn in guitars... so I guess that just leaves new equipment, which I wouldn't sell anyway :P

Ahh sorry that was a pretty lame response!

Let's just say I wouldn't sell my Gibson Custom Shop Birth of Christ guitar that I payed 50k for ;P

It does not have to be vintage, but there again that's where some people would probably say that is the one piece of gear etc etc. I have great difficulty in deciding on whether my '68 335 or my Hamers would be the one piece of gear that I would not sell.

You've got a Gibson Custom Shop Birth of Christ guitar for 50K - Jeezus!! :22:

Re: The one piece of gear you would not sell?

^^ I'm pretty sure he was kidding, there was a thread about it not long ago at all...

I probably wouldn't sell my schecter, unless someone offered like 600 for it. It's not even worth that, I payed 430 for it.

Re: The one piece of gear you would not sell?

i would sell any piece of gear for the right price. come on 1 million dollars? i would sell all my gear, my house, and my family for 1 million dollars.

Re: The one piece of gear you would not sell?

There is nothing of mine that I would not sell given the right price or opportunity. I love my gear (I appreciate the fact that my tone is killer, much better than most stuff I hear around), but at the same time if I need to fund something, I will sell it (IMHO, it's just a guitar or an amp). Maybe if there is a guitar that sticks with me 20-30 years down the road I'll be singing a different tune, but for now I'd sell it.

Re: The one piece of gear you would not sell?

All my stuff certainly has it's price... it's all Warmoth and custom stuff, so it's not like it couldn't be rebuilt (better and stronger, might I add).

Re: The one piece of gear you would not sell?

1978 Fender Telecaster, Chocolate Sunburst.

But in reality, there's hardly anything I *would* sell at this point, except for my Mesa Boogie Mark IV, which you can have right now for $1250, if you like.

About 10 years ago, after I became a Fender player, I sold my '89 Les Paul Standard, black with creme trim and pickguard. That was a *huge* mistake. My rationale was that I never played it. But I had bought it in '93 for $850, and I doubt I'll ever find an equal for close to that price. Lesson learned - if it's a nice guitar, keep it, because you never know when you'll miss it. I even regret selling my cobalt blue Aria Pro II CS-100, because it was my first guitar, and it would be worth much more to me to have it now, than the $100 I got on a trade in.

Re: The one piece of gear you would not sell?

Well i use all my gear so none. I would probably sell my amp one day once i get something decent. My Kramer has great sentimental to me, so its a keeper. My BC Rich, my first guitar i want to sell, i dont play it anymore and it isnt great sounding to me. It wont sell for much tho so i wonder if i should keep it since its my first.

Re: The one piece of gear you would not sell?

I wouldnt sell my Marlboro acoustic, my Sunburst strat, my JV Squire, my Gibby amp, or My ES-125.

Re: The one piece of gear you would not sell?

All of my guitars are lefty and hard to come by,so none of those...
My 66 BF Pro Reverb is staying
And my 73 Metal Panel Marshall 50 watt head stays...

I wouldn't sell my '59 Bandmaster for any price. I've had it since I was a boy, it's a part of my life and that's worth more to me than money.

Re: The one piece of gear you would not sell?

I don't have any equipment that I wouldn't sell at the right price. If you know my equipment that price ain't to high either ;-)

I wish I had my first guitar back, just for sentiment. A Peavey Patriot from 1985. I lost it in a bet about 13 years ago.

I hope to eventually own some equipment that I wouldn't sell, maybe a nice original strat or a nice old LP. Although if I owned something like that and I thought to myself "I can own this guitar that I'm afaid to even look at, or sell it and put a huge down payment on a house, I'd probably sell, buy a reissue for a lot less and be happier in the long run"

There are some guitars that will be priceless, for all intents , in the future as long as they are kept track of. Jimmy Pages LP, Brownie, Blackie. In 25 years all of those guitars will be worth so much that , if they ever come to market, they will command millions of dollars.

I was on the Les Paul forum and they are saying that the 25 signature Jimmy Page les Pauls, Jimmy actually plays each of the 1st 25, are all getting top dollar ~$23,000. Must all be collector money going for these. More power to them!

Re: The one piece of gear you would not sell?

my gordon smith. its my guitar, built for me, and no other focker is having it.

Re: The one piece of gear you would not sell?

I love my sunburst Epiphone Les Paul Standard with the Custom in the bridge and the 59 in the neck. It's a sweet looking, feeling, and sounding guitar! But...w/ the right price... :/

I'd have a hard time selling my Single Recto. I love its tone to death....

Boy...I need more equipment!!

Re: The one piece of gear you would not sell?

Obviously, most of us would sell anything if we were offered a ridiculous amount for it. But assuming I could only get fair used market value, I'd have a hard time parting with anything other than maybe a couple pedals. If I absolutely had to choose between my two guitars, I'd probably sell the Wolfgang before the Hamer. I love them both, but I find the Hamer to be a little more versatile. In addition, as fast as it is, the neck on my Wolfgang seems a little too narrow. I have average-sized hands, but I have a hard time using the Wolfgang for any type of rhythm playing because my fingers feel cramped on the fretboard when playing close to the nut. The wider neck and shorter scale make the Hamer easier and more comfortable to play, and for that reason, I guess it's the one piece of gear I could never part with.

This strat & supro amp will grow old with me. It took me 25 yrs and a gazillion dollars to find what I like.

I doubt anyone would care for/steal my gear with the exception of my amp and cab. That said, however, I doubt I'd ever sell my Parker. I've beaten it up quite a bit since I bought it, but it still plays great and sounds great. And it looks just like me! Losing my Parker would be like losing my face!
