I thought these were the coolest guitars. I had always heard that Fender didn't make these, but rather had another comapny make them. Do any of you know who made them? Thanks
I don't know who made them then, but Fender has brought them back for the Modern player series. Both the Starcaster guitar and bass (which was never officially produced).
I played a couple when I was younger and was not impressed by them at all. It was inevitable that they would be reissued, everyone is looking for them now as they fit the "quirky and uncommon" thing that so many people are shooting for.
Fender did indeed make those during the 1970's . I remember when they 1st came out and trying one . They weren't bad at all but, they never caught on with the public at that time so they were discontinued .
There has been a dedicated fan club of the old Starcaster guitars that has called for Fender to remake them for years. The new one is slightly different in features than the older one, but essentially the same guitar. It is also part of their inexpensive line of guitars (the reissue, that is).
Other way about. The Fender came first. The Ibanez design is the plagiarist. IMO, the RS135 is a classic.
The few Fender Starcasters that I have ever seen definitely carry all of the hallmarks of the CBS era. Thick poly finish, indifferent consistency of neck profiling, annoying machineheads. The re-issue models will not have to try very hard to be better than the originals.
