I thought these were the coolest guitars. I had always heard that Fender didn't make these, but rather had another comapny make them. Do any of you know who made them? Thanks

Re: The original Fender Starcaster.....

I like the slight off set body shape, but hate the look of that head stock, on this guitar. I am sure they could have made a better head stock design.

Reissued and it feels so good. I'm waiting to see them in person to decide which finish I will buy.

Whoa that's pretty cool.

Headstock looks like those old Ibanez Roadstars.

Re: The original Fender Starcaster.....

Where did you hear that Fender didn't make them?

I have played a few and they are very much like any other Fender of the same period in terms of build quality, style, parts, etc.

I'd be very surprised to find that they were not build by Fender.

Re: The original Fender Starcaster.....

I played a couple when I was younger and was not impressed by them at all. It was inevitable that they would be reissued, everyone is looking for them now as they fit the "quirky and uncommon" thing that so many people are shooting for.

Re: The original Fender Starcaster.....

Fender did indeed make those during the 1970's . I remember when they 1st came out and trying one . They weren't bad at all but, they never caught on with the public at that time so they were discontinued .

I wish I remembered. I think I read it somewhere back in the 80's. All the info I see now says Fender DID build them. Don't know.

Re: The original Fender Starcaster.....

There has been a dedicated fan club of the old Starcaster guitars that has called for Fender to remake them for years. The new one is slightly different in features than the older one, but essentially the same guitar. It is also part of their inexpensive line of guitars (the reissue, that is).

Other way about. The Fender came first. The Ibanez design is the plagiarist. IMO, the RS135 is a classic.

The few Fender Starcasters that I have ever seen definitely carry all of the hallmarks of the CBS era. Thick poly finish, indifferent consistency of neck profiling, annoying machineheads. The re-issue models will not have to try very hard to be better than the originals.

Re: The original Fender Starcaster.....

I'd give one a shot. They're no weirder than that Les Paul Signature thing:
