The pots in my amp are scratchy

I have an ashton bass amp that suffers from scratchy pots and a fluctuating volume (only small flutcuations)

I'm nearly 100% sure the pots just need a clean......can anyone give me any tips on how to clean them out though?? Could i hurt anything by doing this?

What cleaning agent would i use??? And how do you go about doing it? :smack: :27:

You need contact cleaner. I was just about to say go down to your local Radio shack, But I just realized your not in the U.S.:smack: There are better brands that can be ordered online (I can't think of it now) Hopefully someone will chime in with the name.:)

Others might not agree (but I've read the comment many times) that if you use contact cleaner in a pot., it is often a bandaid type approach...you will likely be tearing the amp apart again for the same reason in a "short" time.

Solution: Put in new pots of the best quality you can find.

Good luck on solving the problem. Scratchy pots ....such a PITA.

Caig Labs Deoxit. (Available at Radio Shack.) I've been using it for decades. I believe it to be the best there is. Also, its even better if you use it on new pots. Prevents most oxidation and even some wear and tear.
