you know its kind of annoying ( no offence ) that every forum i post at, when they have these " top shredder " polls i never see buckethead ? what the hell..i mean i have over 21 of this guy's solo cd's and i havent seen anybody shred like him, EVER.

So what are you looking for in a Shredder? Does thier playing have to sound "beautiful"? Or just really fast and difficult to play?

How about imaginative...is that important? Or original?

As far as Shredders go, that kind of playing doesn't do it for me...but I'd think Eric Johnson could shred with the best of them. Danny Gatton too.

I voted for Vai though...Yngwie's music just lacks humility and without humility I think it's hard to create a work of art with real beauty.

Johnson is great, but Shawn Lane is in a different league to anyone I've ever heard. His melodies are great and his chops are out of this world.

While being a big fan of Yngwie's I voted for Tony MacAlpine as far as versitility goes. Tony has played jazz, fusion, prog rock, has classical training. Tony also can play keys and bass. Yngwie can play the hell out of his guitar and bass but is stuck in the neo classical mode.

I disagree and I am going to say this with nervousness. I don't think Yngwie is melodic at all with a lot of his plaing, especially his solos. He just flys up and down the neck as much as possible and while it is amazifng in a technical way, I don't replay his solos in my head like I do other guitarists. Just look at the G3 DVD. Satch and Vai do something different every time their turn for a solo comes up, but Malmsteen just shreds through a scale. His music just doesn't move me I guess and it is only my opinion, but I'm putting it out there.

Seriously, though, I vote for Mr. Rhoads. But then, I go for emotional and musical content over technical ability every time. Which goes against your definition of a real shredder(sorry).

I voted for Jason Becker for his flawless proficiency and unique technique. also, Paul Gilbert is also amazing. Jeff Loomis from Nevermore is also a killer shredder!
