Re: The REAL List: SDUGF's Favorite Guitarists

None of my top five made the list and I'm neither surprised nor angry. I can't say I'm shocked by that list and there are some great players on there. Kudos to the viking for doing all of this. Must have been a lot of work.

But I must confess, I really wish the April fools list was in actuality the real one. Not because any of my favorites were on the fake one (I think favorites are rather personal and it isn't important who inspires you, but rather that someone inspires you) but rather because I like to see people get unraveled when silly norms are upset.

Like when guitar players read that Rolling Stone top 100?

Re: The REAL List: SDUGF's Favorite Guitarists

For the most part, I don't take exception to the guitarists on the RS list, only their rankings.

I do agree with you that ours is a guitarist's list, while the RS list is a listener's list. The RS list also includes some historic icons that ours omits, since ours is about personal favorites rather than historic importance.

- Keith

True. There's a lot of 'historically important' players in the RS list.

Hahaha. Yup. I don't see why people make such a stink about such topics. Its a list. It doesn't invalidate you as a person/musician if your top rankings aren't mimicked, just like it doesn't invalidate others that don't have the same tastes as you (not you Nitty Gritty, but figuratively speaking - which I'm sure you could figure out, I just wanted to call you Nitty Gritty). Some people just take themselves too seriously I guess. :dunno:

Totally. I think we can put reactions to polls like these down to 'serious music lover' weirdness. Players or non-players.

You are. Still, when I think of rhythm guitarists, he's probably the first one who comes to mind. He's so solid and the perfect complement to his little brother.

Malcom Young

He is actually "AC/DC"...you can change evry member ..Malcolm would still make it classic AC/DC....Great player..Stable ,steady...And great tone!!!

Check out this post from two days ago. This guy had zero inside information and NAILED IT!!!

- Keith

The post of my life... sniff... And now only to look back fondly at my glory days, only revel in sweet sorrow that I had my time, but alas, it is gone.

Re: The REAL List: SDUGF's Favorite Guitarists

It just so happens that I rank Rolling Stone rather low in my list of the 100 Greatest Periodicals of All Time.

Re: The REAL List: SDUGF's Favorite Guitarists

Wow! Joe Strummer didn't make it ?

Did no one here grow up listening, being moved, and inspired not just musically but as a human being by the only band that mattered, The Clash ?

No disrespect to some other players on there but come on, what exactly did Marty Friedman contribute to the world ? lol

I love Joe Strummer, but his guitar playing was definitely not what he was known for. If anything we should be talking about Mick Jones for his musical genius of adding melody to music that moved so fast!!
