Re: The Single Most Overrated Guitar of All Time

YA this is really true, in that the carved top guitars are truly better guitars. They are carvedfrom one solid block of mahogany, and they just are a higher level instrument.
Its hard to say a 335 isnt the best isnt the best semi hollow guitar in the world for rock, depsite the fact its only plywood. They just sound so great.
That said, Id probably say that what I said in my OP is true. The carved tops , or at least the much newer ones, are gonna be superior across the board IMO, regardless of what you want to play or how you want to play it, becasue its a better guitar , and thats just the truth , and a fact, but its just my opinion, so dont get to down on me, as Ive sort of moderated my stance , which was too extreme, since the OP.

I have a book on Cream, that shows a picture of Eric playing, and the caption is: "Clapton, a 335, and a Marshall = perfection."

I knew that posting in these threads is bad two fold...one, the thread never dies and two it's just feeding a troll but I have to say this is still one of the most ridiculous and mis-informed threads I've ever read and is proof that some people just have no idea what they are flapping their mouths about...

Nothing I said in my original post , meant to be thought provoking , but taken as an affront by fools such as yourself, do i retract. I stand by it 100%.

..and who might that be, oh 'breath of a thousand buttlicking dogs"?
The hilarious part about this thread was I was absolutely right.
Most people parrot the "335" as the grail, casue thats all they know, or own.
Now, Im pretty sure a '59 Dot neck IS the grail, not that ive ever played one.. despite being 'only' plywood.
Do YOU have a '59 dotneck? Then shut the hell up about Crapton.
Your 335 may be a great sounding axe,and I'm sure it is, but it aint no vintage 59 PAF dot neck..not by a billion trillion miles.
I actually, by this thread , helped to educate some people that there were solid carved top Gibson 16" Semi Hollows, and not just cheaper less sophisticated laminated plywood top 335's .
The fact that this has been ridiculed here is pretty typical..most peopel only know about the 335, and hence, it truly IS "overrated", at least in this sense.
At the very least from a Luthieary standpoint, a Carved solid top IS a better guitar , and if you doubt that, then your a fool.
Then again, I hear fools hear all the time claiming their inferior built lower quality guitars are "better' than the best made guitars, which is total nonsense.Dream on..oh how i wish an inferior guitar could be better than a superior one...wouldnt that make the world a wonderful place?
The main thrust of my harmless post can't be touched here; like when your going for the grand prize and you unscrew your poptop- 'TRY AGAIN' ....suckers.

One question...

What makes a "solid" 335 style guitar better than a plywood 335 guitar??

I agree.

Everybody knows that the single most over rated guitar of all time is the GIBSON LES PAUL.

For me...that's true, BTW. I've owned quite a few Les Pauls starting with my first, a 1956 Gold Top, which I traded my refinished Fender Jaguar for in 1967.

I sold my last Les Paul with Double Cream custom wound Tom Holmes Billy Gibbons pickups when I bought my ES-335. Kept the Holmes pickups and put the Gibson 57 Classics back in before shipping it to Germany.

I really do find Les Pauls to be to heavy, and, for me, lifeless sounding. I need resonance - need to feel some air and some acoustic-ness.

Blasphemy! Lew, you're drifting in and out of reality. You put out some good well-thought out posts, and then this. Heretic!
