Hehe take this tongue in cheek
but the main reason people use the TS as a boost is because its stock gain is very nasal and boxy sounding.
To get rid of it is pretty simple, especially for lower grade circuits like the SD1 which use slightly less good components.
There are mods readily available out there, easy to perform and cheap.
Diodes: replace stock (or not) 4148 by 4001 or 4002.
Opamp: a TL072 has a pleasant sound to the ear. Rid seems to advise a LF353, I never tried one but if Rid says so, DO IT!
Caps: replace those boxy looking caps by some nice mica or metal boxed caps... that'll make the circuit less noisy and more hi fi, 'cleaner' sounding. Of course that's if you want
And in the SD1 circuit... not sure about TSs...C3 by a .1uf and c8 by a .1uf too.
Those are already good basis for a flatter, less humped and cleaner sounding TS
Hope you enjoy it!
I'd post more mods but a lot of people worked to find them out. I can only suggest what's free out there and easily findable of course. Some of these mods can make an innocent looking SD1 sound way nicer.
And of course the best way to experience a TS is by shredding!
Note: I am not responsible for any damage done to your pedal, or shredder, and shredding a metal pedal is not recommanded.
