A friend of mine built this tone machine and it is awesome. At first I didn’t get his whole concept but after playing the guitar I am blown away. This strat can dial up any tone you want. He was inspired by Steve Morse’s “Rock and Roll” guitar.
He started off with stock Fender pickups and swapped out the magnets. There is a A3 in the bridge, A8 in the middle and a neodymium in the neck. As you can see he added a DiMarzio Super Distortion to the guitar but it is modded to vintage specs with an oversized unoriented ceramic magnet.
The switching is cool. There is a three way selector switch for the single coils. The next is an on and off switch for the SD which bypasses the volume and tone and is wired straight to the output jack. There is a coil tap for the SD and a phase switch. The next switch is a phase for the single coils the last one is a bypass for the bridge pickup that wires it directly to the jack.
I wasn’t sure about what he was doing at first but after playing it this guitar is a serious tone machine.
