The ULTIMATE SDUG Les Paul COPY preliminaries

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Les Paul COPY preliminaries

24.75" scale and a tuneomatic bridge is a must, IMO.

woods are anyone's guess, but drawing the line on body-shapes is going to be near-impossible, especially once you factor in the double-cutaway gibson LP.
it's pretty hard to discount a dean cadillac or an ESP eclipse when you look at an LP special...

ideally they should also have the LP geometry ie angled headstock and neck/body joints to qualify, but this may be too exclusive (ditto re 2vol/2tone rule).

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Les Paul COPY preliminaries

Here's my copy of a "copy", an Aria copy of a Heritage.

1/16th veneer over mahogony body and mahogony neck.
All Schaller hardware: locking tuners, fine tune tailpiece
and roller bridge.
Schaller golden 50's pickups ( best kept secret in PAF tone!!! )
and JP wiring.:friday:

I'll still be voting for Crusty's LP as it's the classiest take on an LP I've seen!

And better still....................hand made:eyecrazy:

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Les Paul COPY preliminaries

I love these guitars and don't know if I'd be able to choose beween them. And that's with Jolly's LP and that sweet flame job LP coming in oh so close second!

Considering that my purple Turser looks so much better in person, I can't even imagine how beautiful these two guitar are when seeing them before your eyes.

You won't have to worry about Crusty's if he doesn't drop some pups in there and throw a set of strings on...

I don't recall a guitar having strings being one of the requirements! :naughty:

The Crusty Less Paul won't be getting strings for another 4-5 weeks yet unfortunately, the final assembly will begin at the end of the month.

But I get the feeling that she's the kind of woman who prefers to wait for the fuss to die down, and when the dust settles, she'll be standing there quietly with a slightly mystical 'Mona Lisa' kinda smile, knowing she doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. Quietly confident, perhaps. I expect she'll be singing quietly to herself as she watches the proceedings. I can almost hear her now.

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Les Paul COPY preliminaries

Is a guitar that carries the Les Paul name technically a copy? Or simple a less expensive version of a LP?

I'm calling Epi's a copy. Squiers ran in the Tele thread as a precedent.

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Les Paul COPY preliminaries

Not a new entry but might do this one more justice. 1983 Burny.

The only way I have to identify any of this stuff is to post on mlp :)

Actually the black custom has a serial number. But the first digit of the year is unreadable so it's 1980 or 1990 :D

I also have a 1980 Greco LPC EG-1000C plaintop cherry sunburst.
