Re: The Well IX

WOW!

Thats twisted to say the least!

Looks like it has a matching headstock and is that a bound neck as well???

Yep! Cool guitar. He puts pickups from cheapo Supros, Airlines, Magnatones, Silvertones and Tiescos on his Strats! Often the pickups are from lap steels.

Yep!

I'd seen several of his but never that one...at least not a shot of the whole guitar...I have a picture somewhere of him and all the guitar you can see is the neck from about the 3rd fret to about the 15th or so fret...it was a Fender neck witrh a bound rosewood fingerboard...I have to assume it's that guitar. I mean how many Strats with bound necks can a guy have???

Re: The Well IX

I know you're asking Lew, but I just have to chime in on this one:

Ry Cooder & Manuel Galbán - Mambo Sinuendo

Awesome, awesome stuff!

- Keith

Awesome album! Awesome album! Awesome album!

Re: The Well IX

LEW!

Let me ask something whoile on the topic of Ry...name me an album or 2 to check out...assume I have none of his work.

I like the CD Little Village...a band he had with John Hiatt. And also John Hiatt's CD Bring the Family which is the same band. Ry played on every cut of both of those CD's and his playing is superb. Check out the tune Lipstick Sunset...beautiful slide solo on that one.

Ry's solo album Bop Till You Drop is one of my favorites by Ry. Also the one Curly recommended: Paradise and Lunch.

Re: The Well IX

Lew, do you have Mambo Sinuendo?
Yes I do. I think I have every album or CD Ry has done.
He's one of my very, very favorite musicians.

So Christian: where'd the Guy Who Invented Fire handle come from?

Thanks guys!

I really dig John Hiatt anyway so I'll have to look into some more of that for sure and I check out a few other you guys named as well...

Lew

now, THAT'S a good question ...

I wondered if this would come up...

Several years ago I was really into (and still am to a degree) a noise/rock band from Chicago called Shellac...they are run by one of my favorite recording engineers ever, Steve Albini...Steve just does things in a very signature way and his records have a very signature sound. He's recorded everything from his own bands to Nirvana to Page/Plate to the Pixies to Cheap Trick and all points inbetween. Anyway Shellac's firts single was a tune called "The Guy Who Invented Fire"...when I was signing up for my very first internet forum I happened to be listening to that tune so I just used it as a handle and it stuck...I use it as a handle on almost every forum Im on...

Just because, here is a link to a Shellac tune...not "The Guy Who Invented Fire" but a tune called "Copper" The video was made by a "fan" and is sort of pointless but at least you'll get to hear Shellac...that is if you really want to!
