Re: The Well Part XXXVII - We're gonna turn the well over to Aceman - SHOCK ME!
Name 3 of Ace Frehley's best guitar solos in songs.
When you were a kid, did you ever put on a mock KISS show in your garage with your friends? How many times did you dress like KISS for Halloween?
I don't know that he ever did a solo not in a song?!?!?! Clarify the question if I get this wrong!
#1 And the obvious answer, is his Alive II Shock Me solo parts A and B. Melodic, tasty, flash (plus fire and smoke), and tapping a whole year befoe eruption hit the streets!
#2 For the sheer fire of it, Makin' Love. Exactly what a great rippin' rock solo should be.
#3 Speedin' Back To My Baby from his solo album. I picked that one for it's blending of psychadelic backwards guitar (rarely ever done well by ANYONE) along with it's classic rock riffage. Just tasty, fun, and a touch artsy without losing balls.
#4 Honorable Mention - While the whole ALIVE recording is one big classic rock intruction manual in my opinion, and should be required listening for any blues/rock player, I'll give a special nod to Black Diamond.
I have NEVER put on a mock KISS show with my friends. My neigbor got me into them and he was a Gene fan. We did put electrical tape and tin foil all over our GI Joes and make cardboard guitars.
Also, I have never went as KISS for halloween. I usually went sci-fi for trick or treat.
My KISS focus as a kid was really listening to the music, and later playing guitar.
