Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
I've been a long time reader of The Well, and occasional question poster. Thanks for turning the microphone over Lucid Lunatic. Anyway, I'm not shy, and I don't offend easily - so have at it! What do you want to know?

Re: The Well Part XXXVII - We're gonna turn the well over to Aceman - SHOCK ME!

I'm first! Let's see some pics of your Norlins!

Re: The Well Part XXXVII - We're gonna turn the well over to Aceman - SHOCK ME!

While I have 6 Les-Paul-esque axes, and three Gibsons, there are two Norlins:

Both are typical 3 piece maple top, 3 piece maple neck guitars and rather heavy.

#1 (1979) It possesses the classic Norlinism of a Volute. It actually has a 5 piece headstock! Currently it has an original T-Top in the neck, and can totally nail Sweet Child or the REO/Richrath neck pup "Keep on lovin' you" tones. The bridge is a Duncan distortion. I replaced the tuners with some awesome gotoh's a couple of decades ago.

and Jaci (1973) It's main Norlinism is a pancake body. It's got DiMarzio's - a PAF and a superdistortion.

I so want Jaci. I love the tobacco bursts.

Re: The Well Part XXXVII - We're gonna turn the well over to Aceman - SHOCK ME!

Name 3 of Ace Frehley's best guitar solos in songs.

When you were a kid, did you ever put on a mock KISS show in your garage with your friends? How many times did you dress like KISS for Halloween?

your opinion on boobs and the boob test

Re: The Well Part XXXVII - We're gonna turn the well over to Aceman - SHOCK ME!

Jaci the two-timing-back-stabbing-fantastic-racked b!tch she is named after, is all yours. The Tobacco burst stays with me. Forever.

It's a truly awesome guitar. I played it on a lark having nooooooo intention of buying it. Obviously, something went wrong, or actually, very right. Well, that spawned Jeff_H's "Boobie Test" and thus the name Jaci. The few others who have played it all said it played and sounded fantastic. Those DiMarzio's truly make it a Classic Rock/Hard Rock/Metal monster.

This is definitely the one that DIDN'T get away! Bought it from a Sam Ash, from my guitar guy Danny, former guitarist in a KISS tribute band!

Now being a big Ace fan did you ever jones for the infamous Washburn Ace Frehley model?

Re: The Well Part XXXVII - We're gonna turn the well over to Aceman - SHOCK ME!

Daktari Aceman is a well rounded individual, and not like moi from pizza and beer.

1) What martial art do you study and whats your rank?

2) What was your Doctorial thesis pertaining to?

3) Do you have a black Les Paul style like Paul Stanley?

I don't know that he ever did a solo not in a song?!?!?! Clarify the question if I get this wrong!

#1 And the obvious answer, is his Alive II Shock Me solo parts A and B. Melodic, tasty, flash (plus fire and smoke), and tapping a whole year befoe eruption hit the streets!
#2 For the sheer fire of it, Makin' Love. Exactly what a great rippin' rock solo should be.
#3 Speedin' Back To My Baby from his solo album. I picked that one for it's blending of psychadelic backwards guitar (rarely ever done well by ANYONE) along with it's classic rock riffage. Just tasty, fun, and a touch artsy without losing balls.
#4 Honorable Mention - While the whole ALIVE recording is one big classic rock intruction manual in my opinion, and should be required listening for any blues/rock player, I'll give a special nod to Black Diamond.

I have NEVER put on a mock KISS show with my friends. My neigbor got me into them and he was a Gene fan. We did put electrical tape and tin foil all over our GI Joes and make cardboard guitars.

Also, I have never went as KISS for halloween. I usually went sci-fi for trick or treat.

My KISS focus as a kid was really listening to the music, and later playing guitar.

your opinion on boobs and the boob test

As boobs go, I like them. I've experienced nearly flat to fairly large (D+). I can work with anything. I'm really a leg man when it comes to focussing on the bits and pieces. But I can find something to enjoy in almost any woman.

And the Boobie test, is simply the gold standard of how to decide if you really need that guitar. I live by it.

No, Never. Apparently Ace was not a big fan either.

I do intend one day to do up a REAL Ace Cherry Sunburst. Chrome, smoke, light, the whole nine yards.

I also can't stand that horrendous fugly Ace Gibson model. Again, Ace rarely plays them!

It's doubtful after you trapped me into that whole hooha with The Guy Who Invented Fire. But don't give up hope - it could happen.

I have studied:
1. Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan for over 20 years. I am an internal boxer - not a health and wellness guy. I have also practiced Xing-Yi and am currently also studying Ba Gua (More freaky weird-but-deadly internal arts.) I have also studied Tai Chi sword and saber. Tai chi is my main thing. At other times I have dabbled more or less seriously in Iaido (Japansese sword drawing), Okinawin Kobudo (Sai, Tonfa, Nunchaku, Staff), and a little bit of Shaolin style San Shou. I plan on studying internal drunken style someday. There are no ranks in Tai Chi. It's kick @$$ or get kicked.

2. "Contextual Interference: The Serial Practice Schedule" Actual, it's a fairy relevent guitar topic that would have a lot to do with how you practice scales to best be able to remember and utilize them.

3) Paul played a lot of black guitars, but mostly explorers and V's until he picked up the Iceman (explorer variant IMO). Yes I have a black Les Paul (Kaman GTX 36!) But no - not like Paul Stanley. I'm always surfing the bay for real PS-10's and IC-400's though. Almost bought one a couple of years ago...

Best KISS song?

Worst KISS song?

What's your favorite non-KISS band?
