Re: The Well Part XXXVII - We're gonna turn the well over to Aceman - SHOCK ME!

If you were to recommend one single band or artist to us kiddos, what would that be? You cannot suggest KISS.

Can you elaborate on an experience you've had, that you think others can learn from as well?

Thanks.

I had to think hard about this. And for the record, KISS wouldn't make the top 20. So let me work it down to the final answer.

First off, a lot of obvious things came to mind like Hendrix, Zepplin, etc...But you all knew that.

Then I went to specific players: Gilmore, Gatemouth, Malmsteen, Eric Johnson, etc...But you know those guys too.

Then I went to other bands: ABBA, for example. The Dixie Chics...Maybe a bit of a stretch

Finally I realized that the main thing in a lot of things I'd recommend, player, band, or otherwise was melody. Whatever you do listen to something with MELODY! Fast/slow, hard/soft, whatever - give me a tune!

But to really answer the question, you want a specific name, so....
I picked something you "kids" might not turn on to.

Runner up: Cheap Trick; The epitomize what music should be about - fun, energy, and great pop tunes. They ballad, they rock, they experiment, they get heavy, they get weird. But it is fun. And by the way...lot's of MELODY! music at the end of the day is about great songs. They have it.

First Place: Billy Squire In The Dark/Emotions In Motion. Those two albums I think are just amazing. They are like Cheap Trick boiled down to just the good stuff! If you could study just two albums to learn what you need to know about music, those two would be a great start. The songs, the arrangements, the instrumentation, the production, the MELODY! Give those two a listen. They won't do a tone for your chops. But at the end of the day if it has to be about the chops, it's probably not music.

You've got a hi-fi degree... so I say most likely boring!

That was a good one though! Can't say I've ever shut down a railway for 12 hours... hahahahaha

Where's a place you'd love to visit that you haven't yet, on say a vacation... and why?

New Zealand. We kind of have a goal of moving there someday. It seems like the kind of quiet laid back place I could enjoy. Hills, Glacier down south ,beaches up north. Just seems to be a cool place to chill. And I like to chill. In my old age I'm jus sort of growing tired of the blatant consumerism, moral terpitude, materialism, waste, etc...of this country. I think I might ike it there.

Re: The Well Part XXXVII - We're gonna turn the well over to Aceman - SHOCK ME!

Thanks a lot for your answer -- I have never heard about the two you mentioned, much less heard anything of, but that's what I am really looking for, so thanks! And I place melody first as well, so it ought to be good.

Can I hope to see a response on my second question after a while too? :)

Absolutely - gonna take a little more thought on that.

Re: The Well Part XXXVII - We're gonna turn the well over to Aceman - SHOCK ME!

Private- And this is a soul bearing moment: I had been constipated for a couple of days, and had a log so big that it was stuck and required the assitance of a second party to get it out. I leave the details of that alone...

That is one huge dilemma! Sounds kind of similar to a recent dilemma another forum member had here recently.

First of all, let me say that turd was simply magnificent. Second, I applaud ALL women for going through the birthing process.

If you could have one super power, what would it be?

Assuming I know your answer to the question, why would you want a longer tongue than Gene Simmons?

Who is your favorite fictional character? Favorite character you actually know?

Do you have a life philosophy or lesson you think others can learn from?

Does that mean you now have stretch marks and a bunghole that, were it used for the purpose would be all slip and no grip?

OK - here is a good one. When in Grad School, there was a professor who was, shall we say, wound a little tight. The guy had a major attitude problem. Anyway, another student and I were discussing up coming courses and this guys class came up. Whatever we said the gist was that he was a sharp guy doing good stuff. Later on it turns out that he is apparently listening through the door to the lab. He comes back and just goes off on me for all kinds of completely imagined bs about our conversation.

Lesson number one: The degree to which this guy was yelling and in my face completely set off my adrenaline glands. I was in fight or flight mode and there was no where to go. As it turns out I had really been working out the martial arts and was in top form at the moment. There were 30 ways I could have dropped this guy and left little/no marks on him. I CHOSE not to, even though he was really deserving of a good thrashing because he was just being a b!tch. I so wanted to, but the truth was that he had a problem and that wasn't going to help any - and as much as I would like to think it would have felt good, it wouldn't have. Bottom line it's almost never worth fighting about.

Lesson number two: While I told my major professor about this, I really decided to just lay low stay away from the guy and get my degree and be gone. The truth was, however, that the guy was losing students and talking trash about everyone and everything. and of course it was everyone else's fault. As much as I knew that the likelihood of students being backed in this situation was low to none, I should have really pushed he issue with the university and made this guy answer for going over the line. I had a totally reliable witness in my partner from the original conversation. I doubt I would have won anything or that he would have been fired or even thoroughly scolded. But I really should have put him on notice. My wife had a job, unlike most of the other students he was threatening, and I could have hired an attorney to really bring the point home. I'm sure he is still behaving the same way today. Bottom line, sometimes you shouldn't let things go, even when it's not going to be easy. Do the right thing.

Superpower: To be invisible. But I'd probably waste it trying to go places to watch chics undress!

Gene: There is no reason to want a tongue that long. My oldest son actually has one, however! In a pinch it's nice to know dad can hook him up to be in a KISS tribute band. My son recently won a prize at camp for being able to touch the tip of his nose the best out of all the campers. The thing is huge! I guess sometimes it might be nice to be able to clean up that extra little bit of ketchup, chocolate, salad dressing or whatever without having to grab a napkin.

Fictional Character - Three of them:
#1 Elric of Melnibone, Albino wizard with a howling demon sword (Elric series by Michael Moorcock). He just wants to be left alone and people/gods/demons/evil dudes just will not leave him be. His entire attitude is like "Fine, you wanna eff with me and ruin my day go ahead. I'm just gonna eff you right back and ruin your entire world. Or you could let me just finish my drink in peace." No one ever chooses to let him finish the drink, and it always goes badly for everyone, including Elric. But it goes much worse for everyone else. see also "Black Blade by Blue Oyster Cult off of Extra Terrestrial Live (best version)
#2 Duncan Idaho from Dune. Just a really fascinating character having been reincarnated/cloned so many times that he has a really fascinating perspective on things going on around him. My #1 son is named Duncan by the way...not entirely coincidence.
#3 Siddhartha from the book of the same name.

Non-fiction: Gotta be Jolly. Or maybe Jack Rag - have you ever seen him play? He'll spend time after the gig talking with you as long as you want.

Philosophy: while all I intended to learn from Tai Chi was how to fight I am 100% now a firm believer in the Tao. This is not a religious thing, it's a philosophy. There is a way of things and balance about the universe. Get with the program, be aware of it, work with it - not against it. I'll leave you with this quote from Dune, it's one of my favorites that I feel really sums it up:

"The universe is just there; That’s the only way a Fedaykin can view it and remain the master of his senses. The universe neither threatens nor promises. It holds things beyond our sway: the fall of a meteor, the eruption of a spiceblow, growing old and dying. These are the realities of this universe and they must be faced regardless of how you feel about them. You cannot fend off such realities with words. They will come at you in their own wordless way and then, then you will understand what is meant by “life and death.” Understanding this, you will be filled with joy."

How about I turn around and bend over so you can take a close look?:naughty:

I have always been blessed with extremely strong sphincter muscles. while the experience was painful, a combination of good muscle tone, my internal martial arts training, and the swiftness of the event once things got rolling, left me unharmed, except perhaps for some mental anguish.

But I haven't really examined things that closely - nor has anyone else. And I don't really want them to.

Re: The Well Part XXXVII - We're gonna turn the well over to Aceman - SHOCK ME!

Will this ever end?

That's exactly what I was saying about that dooger! followed by a short but loud scream. Back to the question:

Discussion of my bung? I hope so.
This "Well?" Yes - tonight.
