A friend on the JCF built amps some years ago, and one of them was a mono 4w power amp with one knob, a 12ax7, and a 6v6. Killer little power amp that kept a consistent tone throughout the volume range. Even at low volumes, it sounded much better than just my rack through my PC/headphones. Cabinet thump, of course, was not there except at volumes that pushed the speakers hard enough, but I was using a 2x12. I'd imagine with a smaller cab, you'd push the speaker a lot sooner, though size and thump are directly related.
For $300, I'd say it was quite the bargain. Haven't heard from him in a while though, and I think I may have broken the amp (been sitting in the closet for over a decade :lol: ). I do need to see if I can send it to him for service and get it back in action.
