My thoughs exatcly, I don't even like leds on boards cause I can't fathom how one would fix them let alone the pup itself lol

Weren't those messed with before and people found they were prone to interference from lights and shadows? Oh great, a new kind of hum lol.

Dunno if they´ve "never" been tried, but I could also well imagine stage lighting to be an issue, was actually my very first thought after posting that....

i seem to remember something close to this ... an infrared system that sent an IR laser that got disturbed by the strings' vibrations .. was crazy expensive and relied on external processing

Rings a bell. IIRC it was used mostly on some basses...

Wikipedia has this to say:

Optical pickups are a fairly recent development that work by sensing the interruption of a light beam by the string. The light source is usually a LED, and the detector is a photodiode or phototransistor. These pickups have complete insensitivity to magnetic or electric interference and also have a very wide and flat frequency response unlike magnetic pickups.

Actually, if their product is as good as they say... I wouldn't mind it trying it especially if mixed with magnetics. I mean, sure, one might enjoy a natural sound but a good pup sounds good, right?

A newly released 24 fret acoustic, still no trem though . It's called the Rhapsody. BM is really cashing in on RS related stuff these days.

Looks like they mixed my yamaha apx with his Red Special.

More of a gimmick than anything else, I bet. Joined at the 19th fret and no upper bout...

Hadn´t thought of bamboo... might be useful for bracing or similar..... But this is an ongoing workanyway , it´s not something I expect to solve here and now, right now most of the work I´m doing is experimenting with different sustain block materials and thinking of ways to mount the floyd while retaining full structural integrity yet without sacrificing serviceability... I´m fairly certain that I´m gonna have to compromise, but where exactly is going to be the kicker....

1 thing is for sure: simply mounting a Floyd on a dreadnought will not work.. Hmm, I wonder how I found that out? :laugh2:

Rangoon Cane is like bamboo only its walls are much thicker and stronger.
It's used for traditional surf fishing rods.It doesn't grow to a uniform thickness,as in it starts off thick[around an inch wide] and tapers down to a very thin end piece[around a 1/4 inch].This is over an average 14 foot length.It is sectored like bamboo.

Yea, +1 on the APX affinity. It is pretty gimmicky. The prototypes were made by Lakewood and are supposed to be quite nice, but the production models are being made in Korea, so do the math.

Back to acoustic guitars with trems . I see no mention of Bryan Adams' Guild with a Bigsby on it.

I personally [will accept corrections] but haven't seen an LP with "FENDER" on it, but I have seen a "Tele" made in a Gibson owned factory!

I'd also like a quality Acoustic Doubleneck in a LEFTY!

how about a double neck with one neck a strat scale, 3 single coil pickups, and a trem bridge , and the other neck a les paul scale with two humbuckers and a TOM and stop tail ... bonus points if there is a suitable joining technique to make the LP half of the body mahogany with a maple cap and for the strat side body, just alder

AH, cool to see that someone´s past initial R+D and concept studies already... Definitely something I´ll want to try when they become available for retrofit (or for guitars at all for that matter :laugh2: )

OMG, I think this thread may have been just what my vision needed....

Yesterday before I fell asleep, I came up with what just may be the simplest solution in the world for spring tension adjustments w/o holes in the axe, strings in the way, big mass and bracing issues or similar. The ONLY thing needed is a simple philips screwdriver. Adding/removing /reposiitioning springs is still a bit of a problem, but it may not even be necessary if what I´m thinking is on the ball... Honestly, when I thought of it I couldn´t believe how stupid I´ve been all these years because it´s so simple and obvious.:smack:

This afternoon, I noticed just how head heavy many of my acoustics are on a strap.:scratchch

And I also found out that my "oh so small bodied" Charvel acoustic sounds absofrickin´lutely gigantonormous though my JCM. And completely sick under heavy distortion to boot.:firedevil

I also noticed that fret access even with the extended neck and cutaway left much to be desired compared to a Soloist.:sad:

Something tells me there´s a LOT of life left in this idea... but the spring tensioning idea is a massive step forward at this point... leaves only the top bracing as the main stepping stone in achieving proof of concept. :headbang:

Why not do it the other way around and turn said filtration system into a guitar?

Or one could purpose build an instrument, I know I´ve thought of it countless times, would sell like hotcakes to stoner rock players :laugh2:
