Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

40 year old women?

It took me a while to even try a tele, now I really like them. I'm still not sold on single coil strat bridge pickups, but there's still a few decades left to convince me on that one.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

Strat type guitars, single coils, aged finishes..... Love them all now.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

Les Pauls - Growing up I thought they were old man's guitars. The clown bursts in particular turned me off of both LPs and burst finishes for a long time, and adding flames on top just made things worse. Currently own a flame top sunburst Les Paul.

PRS - Hated the finishes. Thought they were guitars for ******bags. Didn't understand why people didn't just go and buy a real Strat or a real Les Paul. I guess I'm now a ******bag as I own a McCarty and 245.

Telecasters - I hated these. Thought they looked like a deformed Strat. Thought they were for plinky country stuff. I was surprised to learn how massive they sounded through a high gain amp and currently own a 50's style Tele.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

When I was sixteen it was Power Slinkies or bigger. Eventually moved on to silly things like Daddario Chrome 14s or some-such; wonder if my necks will ever forgive me.

Super Slinkies all day long now, on everything ;) Nice to give my typical disciplined self a break and just enjoy the ease of playing. In my opinion, I sound no worse for it.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

knowing I did a good job on leveling my guitars, but that now they all, and thats a lot, need crowning, which is a pretty exhusative process for me.I'm ok with that..yes, intimidated, but ok.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

Low output PAF's and vintage spec single coils. They weren't in vogue for my first 10 years as a player. This forum actually turned me on to them, and now I get it.
They allow a guitar's natural tone to shine, and the thinner tone is made up for by being able to turn the amp louder, and actually utilizing the guitar volume and tone controls.

At the last User Group Day, Seymour played a new Schecter C-1....the last guitar I'd expect him to use. However, he had it loaded with Antiquities, and it sounded way better than it would have with the JB/Jazz it comes with. What's ironic is that I thought Seymour loved that set. The Antiqities had a better tone by far.

I used to dislike Floyd Rose trem systems, due to an LTD I had that was TERRIBLE to restring, but I found the right Floyd for me.. a licensed one no doubt! And I used to dislike one pickup guitars, but now that I own one, it's badass..

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

I just leveled a few high frets on my new Charvel....did a pretty good job too. NO buzz anymore...but now I've got the same problem..

I might give something like this a try...seems like my best bet (don't see how I could go wrong with it..):

Yep, but get the real"littlebone" from Japan, not the cheap chinese knockoff you posted the link to. Its a total PITA using the littel things ,gruelling is more like it, but it does crown the frets-it does work well if done properly. Ive done one neck and 2/3rds of another. I hate doing it so much you really gotta put some work into it with just the ends of your fingers, it aint fun.
I ordered another crowning tool last night from overseas in East Europe I think- that is more of an actual luthiers file that has got real good reviews.

Well..I got the cheap chinese knock-off...bet it works just fine lol. I like the fact that there's no way you can shave any more off the top by mistake like you probably could with an actual crowning file....I don't have luthier's skills so I'm not messing with any of those instruments...lets see how things go..

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

I used to think un-faded cherry burst Les Pauls (and other Gibsons) were really ugly. Now I kinda like 'em, as long as they are sprayed really nicely.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

One thing I used to absolutely hate were flame tops on Les Pauls. I don't know what it was about them, but I just didn't dig the flame patterns on a LP, and thought the plain top bursts looked a lot better. I still kind of think that, but some flames look pretty cool on LPs (but more so on high-end PRSs). I used to hate Parker Niteflys because they looked so ridiculous and had such weird specs like a flat fretboard and a proprietary tremolo system. It wasn't until I actually played one that I fell in love with them. If only I had the cash for one.

I still hate everything. You guys are sissies to give up your convictions so easy. Once you hate something, you have to hate it for life! [/SARCASM]

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

I might eventually like pointies, Floyd Rose trems and tones from a Dual/Triple Rectifier. But there's one thing I will never, ever, in my lifetime or two, enjoy in a guitar.

****ING ABALONE BINDING. As found in several LTDs and Schecters.
Cheesy beyond belief.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

I didn't really care for white guitars, but after I bought my first MIJ Jackson DK2M (it's white, but I'm a sucker for a maple fretboard), it grew on me. Now I have two of them.

Orange isn't exactly my favorite color either, but there's something about the paint on those Charvel Wildcard #6 Dreamsicle guitars that just catches my eye. One of the shops I go to has had a used one on the wall for awhile, and I wrestled with whether I really wanted it or not. Finally, I put it on layaway. I should be bringing it home in another month or so.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

I have to say, I always challenge my convictions...I do try LPs and pointies with Floyds, and still don't like em. I try half stacks now and then too, and once in a while play with too-loud drummers. Still don't like them, either.
