Re: Thinking about putting together 1 of these cheap DIY guitar kits. Anybody built 1
Semper-Fi and thank you for your service. I chose the EGA because I couldn't find the picture of the crossed fly rods with birch bark grips that I made. I loved being in the Corps and didn't leave without kicking and screaming the whole way and the Commandant being contacted through a family friend to try to get the Naval Doctor to change his recommendation for medical discharge. I wanted it to be my career and I was good at being a Marine. No other branch would touch me after that. I see that you are in MA where I am from. That says a lot about GFS if they sent you a kit that was junk knowing that you could show up at their doorstep over it with some choice words for them. They must have sent you the best they had in stock which is probably still unbuildable. Even if the company is selling factory seconds and were just looking to make a quick buck, you think they would know better than to sell a bad kit to a local lol. It just says that they really don't care about what they sell or that it's the best they have. So I will avoid them like the plague now and just get certain small parts and some pickups from them for cheap guitars. One thing I do like what they sell is that pickup clip system like EMG sells for more money. I wouldn't mind getting that kit and throwing it in a cheap Strat and Ibanez RG from Guitar Center so I could try out different pickups before installing them in to my better quality guitars. The Razorback build kit must be a factory second or just an unfinished set with a junky parts kit from China and I bet it fits together fine since they are being sold here and are returnable through Amazon and fleaBay. Plus those lower quality neck Razorbacks with the dot inlays are not that much money to buy new. I just picked up the Dean Dime Razorback with the Lone Star graphics, DMT design (non USA DimeTime) pickups and F/R special for $279.99 brand new while it was on sale down here in Texas. They usually sell for $499.99 and the US made Razorbacks have the real F/R, SD Dimebucker, SD 59 PU and better quality rosewood fingerboard. But the one I have that has a body made in China and neck made in S Korea plays well and is actually better than most $700 guitars that I have played on. I guess I got lucky because the F/R special is actually giving me no issues and stays in tune with no problems. The kit has the Mahogany body just like the US model and you know how China is when you send them something to make for you lol. My friend in MA designed a fly reel and I guess they had a company in China making it first to see how it would sell in their shop. So they sold out fast and he called to have them ship the rest of them out to him that they made. Well they said that they sold them all to a shop in the US and he complained that it was licensed and all that junk to them and they just laughed at him while telling him that his US license for the product didn't hold any weight in his country lol. He learned his lesson fast about having stuff made over there and they are probably still selling them around the world with different names on them of who ever buys the box of them. So China probably started making the Mahogany Razorback bodies to sell since Dean sent the Razorback out to China to make their cheaper Basswood bodies. I wish I could have afforded to buy the US model but they are so much money right now. I will get one once they go down in price in a couple of years......hopefully lol. I forgot about the Mexican strat bodies and necks that I can get for cheap money. Thanks for reminding me and suggesting them. I should be able to score them for cheap money down here in Texas with it being right on the border. I wouldn't mind getting a bare body so I can cut out my own pickups and knobs and switch so I don't have to use a pick guard on it to cover up the routed out area. I really want to build a low fret low action guitar with a 7/8 short neck and humbucker pickups. Something I can fly around on lol. Thanks again and have a great day!
