Aha my speaker in the DSL40C is celestion seventy 80. What would happen if I swapped with the A2 magnet though? Now if the neck and bridge share the same pots in the ESP, lowering their value will also affect the tone of the neck pickup. Another solution, if going that route is to simply load the JB with a resistor: anywhere from 180k to 510k depending on how close you want to get to making it behave as if it were connected to a 250k volume and 250k tone pot, though the bass will be a bit lower because the load from a real 250k tone pot is different because it's after a cap.
But again, I recommend an A2 magnet swap as a first tweak before doing anything else.
You might need to see an audiologist to find out the extent of your HF loss. I'm not joking.I just don't get the hate for the 70/80.
Now I suppose that I can understand why some don't like the 70/80. But for my purposes, which would best be represented by the "7-string lead" section of the clip, it's perfect. Admittedly, many don't like the style of metal that it's best suited for, but that's why I said "one man's poison..."
Of course it also helps that I have two of them in an X pattern with two Randall Jaguars in a 4x12. The Jaguars add a bit more mids to the mix.
