I never even realized he had a Fender sig.

$250 only? Is that a typo?

That is definitely a '96 Fender; he's right about that much. There was, of course, no Kurt Cobain signature model, and even if there had been, it would not have been set up like that anyhow (like a stock vintage Mustang). It's likely a MIJ Mustang reissue, in which case $250 is a nice price, but not a steal by any means in that condition. Good way to go if you're looking for a well made Mustang at a decent price. If I lived nearby, and if the neck and frets were in good shape, I'd think about buying it myself.

Tried contacting the guy. No response yet.
Here is a couple more pics from CL. Anyone know what the smaller writing might say?

And these are from Fender.com.

I have found many "Kurt" Mustangs on the net, but they all have a HB in the bridge.

Yah, I concur. That's a decent deal but not a Cobain model.
The small decal on Fender headstocks reads
ORIGINAL
Custom Body
PATENTED

MIJ. It was pretty obvious before, as TMK the only standard production Mustangs made in '96 were MIJ. This shot of the neck heel decal confirms it. Even though it's out of focus, it couldn't be anything else but "Made in Japan," based on its location and general look.

Long story short, it's definitely a 1996 '69 Reissue Mustang - nothing more, nothing less.

I believe the small headstock decal says "Offset Contour Body" (used on Fender's offset styles, as opposed to the "Original Contour Body" used on Strats).

Like many MIJ Fender reissues, the street value is probably anywhere from $250 to $750, depending on condition, originality, and desirability of the model. This is likely a very good guitar. But it not being a particularly sought after model, being in somewhat poor condition, coming with an El Cheapo Brand HSC, and being sold by an idiot, I would say it's probably a $300 to $400 guitar on E-Bay. Like I mentioned before, $250 is a good price, but not a steal by any means.

As for the Cobain signature Mustang, that is a much later guitar.

Understood. Thanks!

I still kind of dig it. Waiting to hear back from him, seeing if he wants to do a trade for something

Re: This could be a Craigs list steal. Is this a case of them not knowing what tbey h

I would say $250 for a Japanese Fender is a good price (providing there is nothing seriously wrong with the guitar.)

Well it is a Fender Mustang............

Other than those, the only Cobain-labeled guitar Fender made that i was aware of was the Jag-stang.

The ad says it's broken and doesn't play... And its not a Cobain model as advertised... could be someone's failed project they're trying to get rid of... I'd at least wanna identify the actual problem before buying, but that's just me.

Re: This could be a Craigs list steal. Is this a case of them not knowing what tbey h

Yeah, but "broken" sounds like either a bad pot or jack... nothing 5 minutes with a soldering iron won't fix. For $250, I'd say it's still a fair deal...
