This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

I'd sell it all and buy a PRS, Two Rock, and POD XTL. :p

Oh, wait. That's the rig I have now! ;)

Actually, it's a 70 nova with a 30 over 350 and 3 speed. Black leather interior, 87,000 miles on the motor, 126,000 on the chassis and body. Midnight blue, chrome accents, aluminum billit wheels. If only I had the 2,500.

wow, that's a frickin STEAL, that thing would go on ebay for like 5-6 grand

about the gear

I'd take the tele, rout it like a nashville, do a hot rail bridge/strat lil 59 middle, no neck pickup, sell the mesa & vox, buy a dual recto & a bassman

sell the lp and rack gear, buy an XT live and jcm900 2100

sell the strat, ES, and guild, buy a gretsch dynasonic 6120

and use the leftover money for another 4x12 filled with eminence swamp thangs

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

Man, that's some nice gear you got there. This is what I would do:

Guitars:
- Keep the Les Paul as is
- Replace the pickups in the strat with a Twangbanger in the bridge and Surfers in the neck and middle
- Replace the pickups on the Tele w/ some nice Duncans
- Sell the ES-333 and keep the acoustic

Amps:
- Keep them all (not a bad thing to have that kind of tonal variety)

Pedals:
- The only ones I would keep would be the Boss DS-1 w/ Spina mod, TU-2 tuner, and TS-9.
- I would also buy a Vox Wah (WAY better than the crybaby) and get it modified by Stratdeluxer to have true bypass, external power, etc.
- I would then get a pedal board to hold and power all these pedals

Rack Units:
- Sell them all (although I would consider keeping one for delay effects)

Other:
- Keep all the cables, sell the rest

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

I'd sell it, buy some custom made ESPs from the american custom shop (all loaded with duncans, all with custom paintjobs...maybe comic characters since I'm such a geek..hehe)..

then I'd buy a Bogner Ubershall or maybe an XTC along with a 4x12 GFLEX cab..

probably a GMajor and footboard...

that's just me though =)

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

hmm..maybe a diezel herbert as well now that It hink of it...I think the sales of all that stuff would warrant both amps..hehehe..

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

I'd keep the Les Paul (without the JP wiring), sell all the others, and buy another Les Paul (maybe a Studio, in the Fireburst finish), and load her up with a Pearly Gates in the bridge and a '59 in the neck, both Zebra.

For amps, I'd keep the Mesa and the Fender, but sell the Vox (I'm a psycho, get over it). I'd run them through an A/B box, the Mesa for dirty (only slightly dirty, though) and the Fender for sparkly clean.

My pedal board would look like this:

Crowther Hotcake -> Dunlop Dimebag Crybaby -> Dunlop ROTOVIBE -> Analog Man Clone Chorus.

I'd have the Crowther set-up as an OD pedal, just to get a better drive tone, or to use as a solo booster or something. I'd sell the normal Crybaby and get the Dimebag Crybaby, just for the extreme versatility (trust me, it's not meant for just metal). I'd sell the Uni-Vibe for a Rotovibe, and then I'd keep the Clone Chorus. I'd sell all the others, and change the pickups in the Les Pauls to EMG 85/60 combo's.

I'd sell the two multi-effect rackmounts, and keep the BBE.

I'd get rid of the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power, and just run everything off of 9-volt Duracell batteries. The Soloist, to be honest I don't know what it is, but I'd keep it for when I do know what it is. Of course, I'd keep the cables.

Anyways, that'd be my set-up, and with whatever money I have left over from selling more than half the list, I'd buy another Les Paul in an Orange-y flame top finish, and load her up with the 85/60 combo.

EDIT: I'd actually sell the Mesa and buy a those RI Marshall Plexi's with a 1960A loaded with Greenbacks, or just out of boredom, try out those Patriots (I forget who makes them, I think it's Eminence?) to get an American sounding distortion or something.

EDIT #2: I've decided I'd put 6550's in the Marshall, and then be done with it.

EDIT #3: Of course, there is more. With the 3 Les Paul I'd have, one would be tuned to Standard, the other to Drop D, and the third would be used as a recording axe. I'd then buy a re-issue Korina Flying V, put in a bridge Invader and a Distortion neck, and tune her down to Drop B. Or I might just use the Epiphone I have now and swap out the neck pups.

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

I'd put it all in a big pile on my bed and roll around on the matress laughing like a maniac, because that is a WAY better rig than what I have right now. :D

Seriously, about the only things I'd definitely change would be to replace the Strat pups with Ant Surfers and go on an effects diet. I'd sell all except the following:

* Boss FV-60 (stereo volume pedal)
* Boss GE-7 Equalizer
* Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner
* Dunlop Crybaby (wah - reissue)
* Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer with Analog Man "808 Brown" mod
* Line 6 DL-4 Delay Modeler
* BBE 422A Sonic Maximizer

I'd then go out and buy the Line6 MM4 and maybe an FM4, hook up an ABC switch for your three amps, and call it a day. If there was room in the budget, I'd probably also sell the DC-5 and get a Soldano SLO-100 instead, but the DC-5 is a great amp.

Edit: Now that I think of it, I'd probably also sell the LP and replace it with either an Ibanez SZ520 or an Ibanez Artcore AS83 ... or probably both since neither one is very expensive :D

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

I'd sell all the pedals, rack units and the tele, to get a custom tele built by my favorite luthier.

Buy an a/b/y switch to use each amp for what they're best at whenever I want.

Do a few mods here and there.

Quit architecture to play music all the time and have a lot of fun, until I get my first CD out on the market.

Sounds cool, but now is time to come back on earth... Thanks for this fantastic thread, I nearly believed I was there.

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

If it were me? I'd sell it all, then let GAS take me to all thoes wonderful tones again.

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

It's funny...

As I read through this thread I find I'm constantly amazed at how many folks are willing to contruct monstrous rigs with channel switching, rack-mount routing and multiple-voiced amps and signals.

Do you folks actually...ya know....gig with those things?

It was more than a few years ago that I myself kind of came to the revealation that the uber-complex rig was just unholy unwieldy for most applications. Even setting them up in one place for posterity was almost totally unsatisfying for me if I didn't have the potential of being able to put it to use either recording or gigging.

I sold just about everything off that wasn't a guitar or amp and bought a handfull of pedals, most of which just collect dust these days.

Are the rigs you folks are describing something you'd actually do anything with other than have them?

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

I would sell everything but the strat, ES-333, and the Guild. Then I would pickup a Fender Frontman head and an avatar cab. After that I would buy the fender 63' Reverb unit that looks like a head and then I would get an OCD for normal overdrive(Because you dont even want to touch that frontman overdrive lol) and a Big Muff Pi for if I want alot of gain. Then Id probably just want some kind of octave divider like one of the Electro Harmonix ones and last I would buy a Danelectro tremolo because Im cheap like that. :P I would set up the ES-333 for slide and the strat with some surfers and a twang banger in the bridge. I would be good to go.

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

First, you have a lot of nice gear!! Congrats.

This is what I'd keep
- 4X12 Mesa Cab
- Ibanez TS9
- MXR Flanger
- MXR Phaser (IF this is the EVH Phase 90, otherwise I'd sell it and buy the EVH model)
- Legendary Tones TMB

I'd sell everything else and buy the following...
GMW Super Strat with 59/Cool Rails (H-S) PUs and a Floyd
Charvel San Dimas C5/AP2 (HH) PUs w/Floyd
VHT 50CL Head
TC Electronics G-Force ($1400) or G-Major rack unit ($435) depending on my bank roll.
Ground Control MIDI Pedal
Fulltone Clyde Delux Wah

I'd use the TS9 on the green channel to get a blues type lead tone, the TMB on the red channel to get an insane lead tone, I'd get reverb, delay and chorus from the rack unit which would be used in a parallel (not serial) loop. The wah, flanger and phaser would be used in front of the guitar "as needed".

You are taking a step back in the clean channel department with this rig but getting a very nice rock or metal rig.

What is the over/under on more posts of this nature in the next couple days?? Don't get me wrong it is a very interesting thread no doubt...

You own the following...

GUITARS:
  • 1994 Les Paul Standard; modified with a JB in the bridge, SH-1 '59 in the neck and push/pull pots on all four knobs with Jimmy Page wiring; strap locks
  • 2000 MIJ Fender Strat with rosewood fingerboard; all stock except for locking tuners and strap locks
  • 2003 MIJ Fender Tele with maple fingerboard; modified with a Harmonic Design Super 90 single coil in the bridge, Lace Sensor Blue single coil in the neck and a five-way switch with the following functions: 1 = bridge only, 2 = out of phase, 3 = series (emulates humbucker wiring), 4 = parallel, 5 = neck
  • 2003 ES-333 (the stripped down version of the 335); all stock
  • 1996 Guild D4-NT acoustic with Fishman internal pickup installed

  • I'm not at all crazy about JB's in LP's, so I'd put in some A2P's, or a Bridge 59.
The MIJ-strat would get 3 APS', or 2 APS' and a custom shop hot A2P.
The Tele-I've never played through a HD pup, but I've heard they sound great, in which case I'd put a SD A2P in the neck slot, or another HD
333-I would put in a set of A2P's, or A2P/CC
    Guild-leave alone.

AMPS (all tubes stock):
  • Mesa/Boogie DC-5 50-watt head with Mesa 4x12 cab filled with Celestion Vintage 30s
  • Vox AC-30 Top Boost Reissue combo
  • Fender '65 Super Reverb Reissue combo

  • I'd put JJ's in all the amps.

I'd probably switch out the V30's in the Mesa cab for some Weber Alnico Speakers, or vintage styled speaker.
I'd also go with a A/B/Y box. Also I'd be looking to pick up one or multiple Weber MASS' especially for the Mesa, but the Voxes are loud as well. The switcher I'd use between the AC-30 and Mesa, or Super and Mesa, depending on my preference that day. Of course if you are gigging in small places you could just use the Mesa, it'd be a lot easier.

PEDALS (listed in alphabetical order):
  • Analog Man Bi-CompROSSor (compressor)
  • Analog Man Clone Chorus (stereo chorus)
  • Analog Man NKT-275 Sun Face (fuzz box)
  • Boss BD-2 Blues Driver with Analog Man "Super" mod
  • Boss DS-1 Distortion with John Spina mod
  • Boss DS-1 Distortion (unmodified)
  • Boss FV-60 (stereo volume pedal)
  • Boss GE-7 Equalizer
  • Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner
  • Crowther Hotcake (overdrive)
  • Demeter Tremulator TRM-1 (tremolo)
  • DigiTech X-Series DigiVerb (digital reverb)
  • DOD FX30-B Gate/Loop
  • Dunlop Crybaby (wah - reissue)
  • Dunlop Uni-Vibe (reissue)
  • Geoffrey Teese RMC-3 (wah)
  • Ibanez TS9 Tubescreamer with Analog Man "808 Brown" mod
  • Legendary Tones Time Machine Boost (dual-function treble and clean boost)
  • Line 6 DL-4 Delay Modeler
  • MXR Flanger (vintage 1981)
  • MXR Phaser (reissue)

  • I'm not a pedal afficianado so I don't know what I'd do, I'd keep the Spina DS-1, and the moded TS9, as well as the MXR stuff. The wahs, I don't know. I'd also keep the digital reverb.

RACK UNITS:
  • Alesis MidiVerb 4 (multi-effects processor - two units)
  • BBE 422A Sonic Maximizer
  • Lexicon Vortex (multi-effects processor)

  • I don't know enough about racks to comment intelligently.
KGMESSIER said:
OTHER:
  • Scholz Rockman Soloist
  • Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2
  • Monster Cables (from guitar to effects and from effects to amp)
  • Fender 6" patch cables (used to connect pedals to each other)

  • I'd keep the monster cables and use them, alot, I've always wanted to try a rockman so I'd definitely piddle with it a lot.

    How was that?

That was great, but I must admit I'm not sure what "A2P" or "APS" stands for. I'm assuming "CC" is "Custom Custom." Is that correct?

Thanks!
Woops sorry for the lingo getting thrown around.

A2P=Alnico 2 Pro humbucker generally
APS=Alnico 2 Pro for strat
My other A2P was in reference to the tele neck pup version.
CC=Custom Custom, you were right.

Luke

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

id sell the mesa
id sell all the pedals and rack units except the modded ds1, teese wah, dl4, mxr phaser, and bbe sonic maximizer. and id sell the strat and the es333 and get 1 good guitar with an ofr.

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

Just focus on creating music, and use the mountain of gear as your tonal library.
Once you start delving into songwriting, your mind will tell you which pieces to grab, and eventually you find yourself using 10 out of the 100 pieces of gear you own.

Sorry, getting lost on the acronyms again. "OFR"?

Agreed, but I love reading the various responses from everyone. There's almost no common denominator, which I find fascinating. Keep the posts a-comin'!

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

I would take the ES-333 and the Les paul and run them through

Boss FV-60 (with the other out running to the Boss TU-2)
Geoffrey Teese RMC3 Wah
Dunlop Univibe reissue
modded tube screamer
modded ds-1
Analogman clone chorus

and from the analogman chorus, I'd send one side of the signal to the super reverb, and the other half to the vox ac-30
