This might be crazy...(SG content)

Ok, so after looking at a bunch of SG's because I have a bad case of SG gas, I came up with this crazy thought.

The space in between the end of the fretboard and the neck pickup on the sg is kinda big. Is it big enough to add two more frets? Making the neck have 24 frets. Pretty much the idea I have is to take a piece of Rosewood(Or whatever the board is made of) and add two frets to it. Then screwing that piece of wood to where that little piece of plastic would be. Would that even work?? Could you simply screw on this piece of wood with those two extra frets onto the end of the fretboard to make the neck a have 24 frets(of course they would be placed in the right spot if it could work).

Go look for a SG Diablo. It comes with 24 frets from the factory.

Whether you could or not on a Standard, it might be possible. Find out how much wood is needed and measure to see if it will fit.

Get an old SG-X.

I saw one and I kinda pooped because it sounds like its an awesome guitar. I really want to try one.

On a side note, I've come to realize that I like the weird guitars companies make for like 2 years then get rid of. Ex: Fender HM strat, SG-X blahblah.

The Diablo, SG-X and the recent Anniversary SG extend the fretboard to 24. You'd have to measure the gap, but I'm pretty sure the average SG fits the extension. If it doesn't, then maybe cutting out the pickup ring like some Ibanez models do will give you a hair more space.

Yes, it is crazy, don't ruin the resale value of a 22 fret SG, get a 24 fret one in the first place.

Sorry to go on a tangent, but this Kate Upton bimbo appears like she does more drugs than the average Rock star

Yup. It is not only possible, but it is possible without doing one bit of damage to the guitar, since there are two screw holes already there.

Given what is out there in terms of 24 fret models, I'd go this route instead of seeking out a 24 fret model. I like the look of a '60's SG, and most of the 24 fret models look less traditional.

Its going to be hard to get both the 23rd and 24th in the right spot. There is not a lot of room there for 2 frets and room to mount it. Plus you have neck binding to deal with.

You've made money playing guitar? :laugh2:

Believe it or not, yes!

I can't remember the last time I needed anything more than the 21 frets on my guitars. I still say just get a 22 fret guitar and call it a day :D

I did this when I created a new body for my sg neck.

It isn't hard if you can use a ruler, and have basic woodworking skills.

There is plenty of room.

Obviously it is not the most visually appealing method. But it would work fine.

Just because there is not some pre-packaged solution doesn't mean it's "hard" or can't be done.

Re: This might be crazy...(SG content)

Use the stewmac fretboard and chop off the last few frets.

if you care about matching the grain correctly, then you might have to dig. If not, then go for it.

BTW, my SG is sprayed with the old school lake placid blue that fender doesn't use anymore
