Till Guitars. Cool Guy. Cool Instruments.

Way back when I was a fledgling guitar player strumming my Yamaha acoustic, there was this kid a year ahead of me in school, named Joe Till. Not only was he a year older (which was a lot back then), but he was the hot shot guitar player that could play all the Clapton and Keith Richards licks on his Melody Maker. I remember his band was called "The Stray Cat Blues Band." He was a really nice guy and not at all egotistical about his "best guitarist in school" status.

He was also the "most talented guy in wood shop" too. I hate guys like that! :newangel:

Cut to 30 years later. Now he's a guitar builder and he's making awesome axes. He stopped in to the SD factory today and I got to show him around. It was cool.

Click here if you want to see a couple of pictures of his guitars.

Come to think about it... given that I've known Joe since I was around 12 years old, I guess I've known him longer than anyone else in the biz.

Re: Till Guitars. Cool Guy. Cool Instruments.

it's so difficult to do something original nowadays, but he's done a great job of that ... some interesting wood choices and designs

Re: Till Guitars. Cool Guy. Cool Instruments.

Very true, Curly. Joe is an original in many ways, and you're right that it's reflected in his guitars. Good observation.

Re: Till Guitars. Cool Guy. Cool Instruments.

well, he's the first one I've seen use Shedua, which looks great - kind of like a cross between rosewood and maple

he's got some creative use of laminations, and some of the other woods are more often seen on basses or acoustics

also, his price is pretty reasonable for a hand made guitar

Re: Till Guitars. Cool Guy. Cool Instruments.

damn those are nice stuff...not to much at all! nice use of woods!

thanks for the bumps, i must have missed this when u first posted it!

Re: Till Guitars. Cool Guy. Cool Instruments.

Nice guitars, and he's local! Maybe it's a myth, but it seems like all the audiophiles with ears of gold all move to Westlake Village, Ca. LOL

Re: Till Guitars. Cool Guy. Cool Instruments.

Interesting stuff. Evan, you will have to give us a review of the feel/tone if you get a chance. I am always interested in something new and different that actually has a high quality, AND sounds great. i kinda like the purpleheart maple guitar.

Re: Till Guitars. Cool Guy. Cool Instruments.

very cool stuff...nice designs...

kind of a cross between toronados and dc pauls...

Re: Till Guitars. Cool Guy. Cool Instruments.

I like them alot, I like the fact that the design is original too, all good hardware etc, and nice wood!, I have a thing about nice wood with natural finishes, and this doesn't help! :yell:

BTW: A review would be cool.

Re: Till Guitars. Cool Guy. Cool Instruments.

I have some mutual friends of Joe's. Met him twice. Super nice guy. And his shop is about 5 minutes from house, which could be a deadly combination to my wallet.
