Time and Cost for a Custom Shop Pickup?

And I've long maintained the 78 is like a Pearly Gates with the bass rolled off. Didn't say High Voltage was Pearly, just word from a reviewer who knows the person in the shop who wound them in the beginning is best could be said, it's a very close neighbor to a Pearly wind. But that's why I asked why 9k was an important factor, because I would think the resulting sound is more important than the resulting resistance.

it sounded to me like / my interpretation was, if he wanted a overwound pearly, the high voltage might be just that and he doesn't have to go down the custom route.
I didn't do search on your posts about the pearly gates or 78, nor High voltage;).

But he likes his overwound pearly for the extra beef, which in my opinion my High voltage sets don't have. I had the Pearly gates in the same guitar before and it was brighter and had more lowend.
Just want to make sure, the high voltage bridge is NOT the one to get in this case.

My custom shop order took 3 weeks. this was six years ago, so the lead time may be different. They knocked my pup out of the park. I bet you'll be pretty happy with it.

I think the lead time varies a lot. Some have taken 2 weeks, and some over a month (for me). Just depends on the list when you order.

Let's don't forget, I'm me, so that might speed things up too, unless Slash is in line ahead...

I was just making sure it wasn't like years or something.

that's interesting , I though they were closer, aren't they with comparable wound? (the 78 is a pickup that always interested me but I've never had a chance to hear it here in Italy)

I don't know what the 78 is actually based on (if it shares DNA with any other Duncan), other than it's a variant of a PAF wind that is overwound, yet still has a very thin, bright sound. Like I said, it sounds just like a Pearly with the bass rolled off.

I remember when I was first lurking, there was talk that either the '79 or the PG were asymmetrically wound, which I think later, someone at Duncan denied.

this might fit here,
don't know if that means a high or low pitch, but the sizzle is not coming from asymmertric coils according to this:
Billy Gibbons’ favorite Les Paul, Pearly Gates, is so valuable to him that he didn’t want to take it on the road any more. So he came to Seymour and asked “I want my touring Les Pauls to sound like the Pearly Gates; is there anything you can do?” Seymour took those pickups and analyzed them for gauss strength, DC resistance and more. He realized that, much like a lot of P.A.F pickups, they were wound out of spec. They were wound to be a little hotter than they should have been, and the pitch of the way they were wound favored more of a top-end sizzle. That’s the Pearly Gates: lots of bite, crunch and body.
