When I got it a long while back it was a mess inside. I started fixing the mods, bringing it back. Then got involved with a ton of other stuff. So, tonight broke it open and started removing some stuff. This is still the blackface circuit. Just a mess though.

But, here's the weird part. It's got that old 60's Fender funky tube amp smell to it. Heavenly in a perverted sort of way

Also does anyone have any insight about these two 12's that were in it? Thanks

I've plugged into what I think are stock Pro Reverbs, and they usually sound more thin than ones with updated choices.

I think once you sort out getting the circuit completely cleaned up and running perfectly with good tubes, you'll figure out which of your favorite speakers it should have. That's the nice thing about vintage blackface Fenders. They're so pure sounding, that your guitar and speaker choice practically dictates everything.

Mine has a Jensen C12N with beam blocker on the left, and Emi Swamp Thang on the right, delivering all the thump you can wrangle out of a guitar. The Jensen allows the amp to retain it's Fender-ness. The mix works good to me.

Scott, both speakers are Utahs. Utah changed their name to Pyle. So the blue speaker on top is a Pyle/Utah and the orange/silver labeled speaker on the bottom is a Utah.

The top speaker is probably a better speaker than the one labeled Utah. I always thought those, the one with the orange/silver label, were absolute junk.

I'm surprised the "Utah" is even working because I used to blow those up easily, even when they were brand new. I've seen them in Bandmasters and in Pro Reverbs.

My '73 Pro Reverb came with the orange and silver Utah's. Here's what you do with them. Place one on your bench business side up. Place the other on top of the first business side down. Wrap your left arm (if you're right-handed if not do the opposite) around the bottom speaker and lift them both off the bench. Now turn in the direction that will lead you out of your house. Once outside proceed to the nearest trash receptacle. Deposit speakers in same. Return to your work shop and go on with your life.

The pro reverb is Fenders best amp. Stay with it, it will be worth it

Pro's are cool amps if you dig the Blackface/silverface tone but the stock speakers are junk, no offence intended.

Once you get the amp running tip top drop in some speakers.

Personal speaker suggestions

-Closest you can get with new speakers to ideal vintage
--2 Weber 12F125's or 2 Weber 12A125A's or a one of each

-Very cool but not vintage-with an English slant
--2 G12H30's (I like the 55hz versions myself) or one H30 and one V30

Modern spin on vintage tone
-2 Eminence Red, White and Blues or one Texas Heat and one Cannabis Rex

If it was mine I'd go with a pair of G12H30's. All three types (Anniversary 75 Hz and Heritage 55 Hz & 75 Hz) are great.

I'd probably go with a pair of the Anniversary model because they sound great and they're $100 less each than the Heritage version.

I played a '66 Pro Reverb for many years and it came with two original Jensen C12N's. Weber makes a version of the C12N.

Terrific speaker, but I'd go for the Celestions myself.

I took sly's recommendation and tossed them already. I've got a red fang, a cann rex and two mojo branded G12 H30's here. I've got to get it going first. I am trying to get a black widow trem bug from Austin Amps. The old one is gone. I used to buy surf bugs but that guy died unfortunately.

Mine has an old Carvin 100 watter and a Celestion that was in an old DSL combo and it kicks. But my favorite way to run it is alone into my Recto 2x12 (V30). It has had other speakers over the years as well. Any modern speaker that I've ever tried worked well enough for me.

Back in 1967-68, I used to book a certain band at my high-school dances that featured a dynamic young girl singer by the name of Ann Wilson. She went to a different high school than I did, just a few miles down the road in Bellevue, Washington.

Now the guitarist in that band used a SF Fender Pro Reverb with JBL D-120s, and stacked atop a Fender Dual Showman 215 cab, one of the large ones, with D-130s. Typically it would be wide open, and that rig remains to this day one of the best sounding rigs I think I have ever heard. I think the guitarist might have been Roger Fisher...in one of the very first incarnations of what was to become Heart.

I'd be really tempted to go old school with that amp and load it with the D-120s...

...but only if you have a very strong roadie to lift it for you!

(Another speaker that I know sounds good in these amps from personal experience is the EV Force, though very different sounding than the JBL.)

There really is something to Celestion speakers with Fenders. It might seem like blasphemy, but the 10'' Golds in my Vibrolux Reverb and the mix of G10L35s/G10N40s in my Super Reverb are quite nice. While I don't own a Pro Reverb, I have used G12H30s before and as long as you don't need tons of clean headroom, I think you'll be quite happy. If you want a more "efficient" speaker, I'd highly recommend a 12'' Celestion Gold pair.

Hello Scott....I too love the blue Sozos and they have been in my own BF Pro Reverb since their inception..Great stuff..I use the original yellow ones in my Marshall too..
