Play to a backing track. Or introduce your band members during the solo that you can't play.

What I do in situations like this is that I download the power tab of the song I want to learn. Open it with Power Tab, and slow down the tempo to a pace I can handle. Afterwards, I slowly increase the speed by an increment of 5 BPM.

I always do the signature parts of the solo that everyone recognizes such as the intro, ending, and any stand-out licks, just like the original. But in between those, I make up my own parts. I works awesome, 'cause when you hit those signature parts, people love it. Then when you do your own parts, they see that you have some talent too.

Avenged Sevenfold solos tend to be unmelodic bunch of notes. They use the Natural and Harmonic minor scales a lot. So try the Pentatonic first, play it fast, and try to add notes from other minor scales. See which fit, memorize the scale and go for the speed based on your own ideas man. Way more worth it and it'll teach you just as much as learning shape by shape.

Do it slowly and properly the first time and the first couple days, but spend hours on it. HOURS. Not minutes :D

EDIT: remember, your fingers are memorizing what you are doing, not the music behind it. When you memorize, it's the memory of it, the motions and positions of the fingers. Yes, this means you need to re-evaluate your technique, but don't fret: I do it constantly. Anyone who is serious about guitar will re-evaluate their technique from time to time.

If you really have to learn it in a short time I'd rather improvise a bit on the scale instead of screwing up all the time trying to learn it note by note...
