To paint or not to paint?

Oh Man....

Chrome hardware all around - car and guitar.

Gonna be a great pic of them together coming up.

Gloss that thing deep and wet!!!!

Wet sanded it and did one more coat of clear this morning. Still have to wet sand and buff, but it's looking pretty good so far.

Are you afraid of getting witness lines if you sand through one coat of clear poly into an underlying coat of cured clear poly?

Not really, pretty forgiving as long as you dont go through the clear. Especially since I'm polishing after.

Wet sanded and finish polished today.
Not perfect, grain lines are showing through in places and there are a few imperfections, but I love how the color looks on this guitar.
Hope to get it together this weekend sometime.
Now to wet sand and polish the car....

I gotta say, I think I like the white pearl with the red the best.
Regular black would look good as well, but I'm a sucker for pearl.
I'll make the final decision once it's back together, at least it's simple to change on this one.

Well it's all done. Here's a comparison to before. Just wish I'd have remembered to clean the headstock before the pic.
Decided to stick with the white pickguard, just looked right to me. Plus red & white are my Alma Maters colors, lol.

I think I definitely made the right choice to finally paint it, I love how it turned out. I got the Mustang in 2001, but first got it drivable in 2003, a couple months before I bought this guitar. So it's fitting that the guitar gets a rebirth at the same time the car does
.
Distortion bridge, 59/A2 neck, Gotoh hardware, Scarlett Fever Pearl paint. Finally "Finished" (Pun Intended) after 20 years of ownership.

(and of course I messed up the paint a bit when tightening the toggle ring)
