To paint or not to paint?

I only paint guitars that don’t already have a nice top. If you like how the wood grain looks, how about staining it?

Got the body cleaned up, added a bit of filler where needed and sanded with 400. Gonna seal it with epoxy in the next little while

3d printed plugs turnes out great. They thread into the inserts and are the same diameter as the outer lip to mask them.

They will leave a ridge when you take them out. Tape is better.

By the way - what kind of epoxy? They aren't all alike, and don't all work well as a sealer.

What a project, can’t wait to see the pics….. hopefully side by side with the beastly car!

Got a black pearl blank and made a pickguard this evening. I went black but it had to have pearl. I love the look.
Warmoth couldn't tell me for sure if the Nomad pickguard would match the "explore" from 2003, plus with shipping it was $50+.
I need to do a little more trimming and sanding, but it turned out pretty good for < $20 with material leftover.

Great job on the pickguard. I was going to suggest that you just buy the material and make it yourself.
I think you are doing a fantastic job so far. Very impressed.
I look forward to continued update photos as it progresses.

Got a coat of color on it

Freaking sweet. Are you going with a clearcoat or just buffing?

Clear.

It's done, just needs to dry.
I did get a run in the clear on the left upper side. Got in a groove spraying the car and forgot to hold the guitar steady when I started to spray it. Since it was suspended the air pressure pushed it away and then it twisted back too close and built up too much.
Not too big a deal, I'll sand it and polish it back out. Just need to let it cure for a bit first. The important thing is there were no runs on the car!
This color is so killer. It's hard to capture in pics but it is intense when the light hits it, like a laser.

Wow, great job on car and guitar. Look forward to seeing the finished project(s).

Those rims are gonna be gorgeous with that color.
