Man, you walked right into my ballpark with this question...
As many of you probably know, Tom Morello is my favorite guitarist. I have spent serious amounts of cash trying to get his tone. Any Tom questions, send them my way pretty much. Alright... as to your question.
In his custom "Arm the Homeless" guitar, Morello uses EMG 81s. This is what you're hearing in most of the recordings.
He also uses a stock telecaster on songs such as "Testify"
For "Guerilla Radio" Morello uses an Ibanez hollowbody custom built for him.
Don't forget, a great amount of the tone he gets comes from his JCM 800 50 watt with old tubes. I've always found Morello to have a unique guitar sound all to his own.

Wait a minute... I always thought his tone was like 80% strat. I know double tracking is very common, but I hear lots of single coil in his sound. Anyway, I could be wrong. So what you're saying is most of his tone comes from the Marshall. In an interview for Guitar World he said his signature sound was a neck single coil through the Marshall you mentioned.
I was kinda thinking of using an Alnico II magnet Tele neck through a Marshall AVT. What do you think?

it's pure tube.. the difference is that tube amps use tubes.. and solid state dont... hah... generally, most people prefer the sound of tubes: warmer, fuller, less harsh. Yes you can put a emg 81 in your c1, but you'd have to completely replace the electronics in your guitar, not to mention get an active neck pickup also... you cant use your stock pickup and and emg 81 togetherchenchio said:

Joelap do you know if there is anywhere were you can get Toms cutom switch that Ibanez helped design. The one that makes the same sound as the lead to the amp touching the pup?
