Hey people, what is actually the difference in tone between a real 50W amp and a 100W one with two powertubes pulled?
thanks
thanks
And of course, if it's a 50W amp with 2 tubes, DO NOT pull out one tube. On that amp, there's nothing you can do.
:smack: lol I'm not stupid. haha
So... if I'd know I'd never use full 100 and had the chance between a 100 and a 50, I'd be better off buying the 50 because it has better tone all in all?
"Better" might not be the right word....but I know what you mean.
I'd go with the 50w myself......:dunno:
Is there a particular amp you have in mind? Does it have a master volume?
ive heard that there is only a 3db difference between a 100 and 50 amp anyway, is that true?

That is true...if you have a 50 watt Marshall and a 100 watt Marshall played into the same cab, both full up the total difference in loudness is only 3db's
Are you sure? The difference is about 10%, which would mean the 100W has about 30db...

I am positive...don't confuse wattage with db's...a watt is simply the measure of the disapation of heat, a db is the measure of volume. You can not hear watt. Wattage can be as misleading as the DC resistance of a pickup...
As I know it 25 watts is 50% of 100 watts volume, so I guess 50 watts should be 75%?
BTW would it hurt the amp to pull out two tubes? Cause i've been told by my amp tech that it would but I read Mike Soldano's article in which he says it won't as long as you change the ohm..
