Trade my Classic 30 for a Blues Junior?

I bought a Classic 30 last week and loved it for the first couple of days. Then it started having a low static noise whenever I turned it on. I'm taking it back into the shop to see if it's the amp, or if my house's wiring is messed up. But the thing is now I am having second thoughts about my purchase.

The Blues Junior is the only other tube amp in my price range that I would consider, but I don't really know much about it (yes I read Lews thread).

So my questions regarding both amps are...

1. I emailed Eurotubes and he told me what tubes would be best for my desired tone, and that it would cost $55 to get them. But since I just got the amp I'm hesitant in spending another 55 real fast on it, do new tubes really improve it that much?

2. Is the blues junior as versatile as the Classic 30? Can I play jazz, blues, rock and funk on it?

Thanks, and feel free to make any other comparisons on the amps that might help me out.

there are fans of both amps on this forum

and I would wait a while before doing mods on an amp, just to get a better feel for what you want and don't want

I don't think you can go to far wrong with either one. I've heard very good stuff about them both. I have a BJ and like it alot but have considered selling it for a C30. I am selling it now but have decided to spend some more $$ on another amp that is more versatile and powerful. I would get another Peavey and see. It does more.

Tubes can make a significant difference in an amp....Bob at Eurotubes is knowledgeable....I'd go with what he says. I'd also consider swapping out the speaker with a Celestion V30.

I agree with G!

Just take yer time and get familiar with the amp. The fact that you loved it the first few days is reason enough to take your time. Find out whats wrong with the amp & take it from there. True, there are upgrades to make to just about any amp or guitar, but first you have to know where you want to go.
Both Curly & I have Blonde Blues Jrs that we took to the next level thru modification, and Bob at JJ's was part of the equation. Speaker upgrades was another. BUT, BUT you have to know what you have & what you want before you can get it. Don't be so eager to get rid of your Classic 30 without giving it ample time for evaluation.

Peace,

I have a Classic 30 and like a lot of amps once you "season it to taste" you'll be very surprised what you can get out of it. As said, Bob at Eurotubes knows what he's talking about. Fact is I just put new JJ's in my amp yesterday. Speakers are a matter of taste, but what I did was to build a cabinet about the same size as the C30's cabinet to use as the main. (I don't use a speaker in the C30 cabinet at all. This made a HUGE improvement in the amps overall tone.
