Trading USA Fender Strat with Les Paul Special Faded?

Hi guys,

I've been thinking about trading my 1999 USA Fender Standard Strat with my friends' 2004 USA Gibson Les Paul Special Faded with 57 Classic pickups.

Is this a good bargain or not?

By the way I played the Special and it sounds really good with 57 Classics, all mahogany body really gives much sustain and I get the bell-like tone in the middle setup.

On the other hand I may sell my strat and add about 200$-250$ to get an Les Paul Studio with original pickups.

I really liked the tone of the Special and I don't care for the cosmetics, all I really care is the tonal quality. So looking for the value side, which one has greater value,my Strat or LP Special or are they at the same value?
Or should I sell my strat, add more money and get LP Studio?

Thanks for advance ;)

Hang onto the Strat. It's a much better quality instrument.

If you HAVE to unload it then start looking at a used Les Paul Studio.

I think a USA Strat retails for more than a LP Special Faded, if you like the guitar then go for it but maybe get him to add a bit of cash on his end (something you could use for other guitar purchases). Or if you want to get rid of the Strat just sell it and use the money to get a LP Studio. To help you decide just go play a bunch of different LPs and decide which one is best suited for you.

MIA's are more expensive. That said, both guitars are very good. Have him throw something else too or something like that cause financially speaking you're losing

don't even think that! keep the strat dude!!!

Re: Trading USA Fender Strat with Les Paul Special Faded?

I think you could sell a USA Strat for more than your friend could sell his Faded Gibson. But if your friend likes your Strat, and you like his Faded, then I say make the trade. I see nothing wrong with giving your friend a better deal than you're getting, espesially if you're both ending up with guitars that you want.

If you're friends, then who's getting a better deal shouldn't matter.

Re: Trading USA Fender Strat with Les Paul Special Faded?

In my experience, i've found it's a lot easier to turn any given Strat into *YOUR STRAT* than it is to turn any given Gibson into *YOUR GIBSON*...what i mean is, Fenders by nature are easier to modify and customize to your liking than Gibsons, and therefore Fenders are a little bit easier to replace.

How much do you LIKE the Fender?

Have you modified and 'hot-rodded' your Fender? Are the pickups stock, or ones you've spent hours wiring and testing and swapping out with other pickups? If it's stock, you could easily replace it.

Is the set-up PERFECT? Do the strings react exactly how your fingers want them to? The action's just right and everything? If not, it's easily replaceable.

Does the Gibson look, sound, feel, and play like everything you've ever wanted? You already said you're not so keen on the cosmetics...could you honestly OWN a guitar that you think looks bad? I couldn't...but that's just me and i'm really shallow.

If the Les Paul sounds exactly like you want a guitar to sound, and feels as good, then it's the guitar you want. If it's close but not quite 'there'...keep your Strat and shop around. Plenty of all-mahagoney single-cutaway fish in the sea...

Thanks pals,I see the point,I've been playing the strat for 3 years and I missed my old Heritage LP sound so I'm going to sell strat for a good price and get a LP studio,I'm not in a hurry so I've got plenty of time to try different guitars and compare the tones,by the way LP studio's tone is very good, different from most LP's because of All-mahogany(Much more Darker)But I realize that the tone I want is the so known original LP tone,I'm going for it :14:
