Trainwreck anyone?

Re: Trainwreck anyone?

is it wrong to have constantly listened to samples 4 & 9 over and over again for like the past hour...:32: :32: :32: :32: :32: :32: :32:

Re: Trainwreck anyone?

Well, no one pretends to be Ken Fisher when they build one. Komet is a licensed design, so I guess that's as close as anyone gets to the real thing in a new amp. But, if I can capture 90% of *that* tone at less than 10% of the price, that's a bargain. Then if I'm lucky enough to get it to 95%, it's even better.

Then on the "blind hog finds an acorn now and then" principle, I might get a lot closer than anyone might guess...

Worth a try I think. Consider next on the waiting list. If it sucks butt, I'll scrap the insides and turn it into an Edana.

Re: Trainwreck anyone?

I think that Voodoo Amps is designing their clone called the Vreck which they hope to introduce at NAMM this winter.

Re: Trainwreck anyone?

Yeah, I've heard the Train is pretty damned close.

My 20 is the only Fuchs I've ever played, but I love the little guy...It amazes me that the 30 or 50 might even sound better :dunno:

I've heard very good comments about the Train & wouldn't mind tryingone if I came across it. Not sure what they go for either, but I'm not sure the cost of a real Trainwreck or a Dumble is worth it to a regular schmo like me.

To a professional , maybe :dunno:

Re: Trainwreck anyone?

I know I always post this when Trainwreck is brought up, but I could kick myself. I'm sure some of you would help me out. Around 1985 guy I knew was trying to recreate the greenback speakers. He was buying up old plexis like nuts and putting them through the speakers his brother was building.

He knew Ken Fisher and took me over his house once. He told me that Ken didn't just see anyone, that he had to know you or be referred. Ken used to take Fender Deluxe blackface amps and mod them into mini Marshalls. I mean, they sounded great. He also had a Trainwreck amp there that I could have bought but I didn't have the cash. He even said, why don't you save up and buy one of my amps instead of modding the deluxe? I eventually bought a deluxe, but never had him mod it, which was the plan. I think he was asking something like a grand for the head which was in a beautiful wood box. At the time I was mesmorized by Marshall, so if it didn't say Marshall, I didn't want it. Ken was also an incredibly nice guy with a great sense of humor. I'll always remember that visit because it was so much fun.

Now tell me all--how freaking stupid was I??????

Re: Trainwreck anyone?

Hind sight is always 20/20. I'd not kick yourself too hard. How about me trading in a late 60's Fender Mustang and blackface princeton reverb on an Alvarez 12 String? Far more stupid if you ask me.

Re: Trainwreck anyone?

I know that making a wreck clone isn't going to be easy, but I'm up to the challenge now after reading this thread. I know it's coming across ****y, but I'm 100% confident I can do this.

with that attitude i don't have any doubts!

keep us posted my friend!!!

maybe i'll be your first customer for it?!?! :27: :fingersx: i've been leaning towards a head recently anyways!

Re: Trainwreck anyone?

Hoss, I think it's going to take a certain kind of guitarist to fall in love with a 'wreck. I'm not sure it's me to be frank. But, people want high gain and this seems to be rather high gain. Not a channel switcher, but high gain nonetheless. Now, if I could mix in a clean channel, then maybe with an ABY box, I'd really have something special.

We are brothers from different mothers, lol. I'm sure we both have quite a few more "oh my god, what did I do" stories. :laugh2:

Re: Trainwreck anyone?

I may be in the minority, but I'd be interested in a Liverpool clone

i am sure you can get way closer than 95% scott ... i cant wait to hear about your results

the interview with ken fisher in that amp book that everyone was talking about a buncha months back was interesting to read .. he talked about what type of wire to use on which parts of the circuit and little things like that .. he went into the iron a little bit too .... i have never played one, but those clips are really amazing

have fun - good luck

Now go listen to the Concorde demo called "Mississippi" ;)

Pretty sure there is a constellation version of the same track too!

Re: Trainwreck anyone?

Scott....I"m really interested in this. You know I'm a channel switching, master volume kind of guy, but I'm really intrigued by this. If you build this and are happy with the result, consider it sold to me. It has to have EL34's for me though, or 6CA7's.

I've been dying to try one of your amps. Really, what's the worst that could happen. It's not the amp for me, and someone else who's a much better player than me buys it off me?
