traynor for higher gain ?

Just Ultimate Slacker
So after my other thread I went and played some of the amps I was looking at. The epiphone was kinda, well, ahh..
Before I had played the valve junior head through a 2x12 cab with it cranked and it was sweet. I thought that the valve special with the gain controls and all would give me something at lower volumes, but not so much.
Move on to the laney LC15R. I liked this amp, sounded good under different gain situations, only a 10" speaker but overall nice.
I also played the fender hot rod deluxe. It wasnt really on my list but there was a good deal on one. I liked this also, same as the laney, just a little bit more. 2 channels instead of one. ended up being too expensive.
Went and played the crate v16, nice gain sounds, overall nice. once again one channel. also a little more than I want to spend.
I did not get to crank any of these any, so keep that in mind.
I have thought for a while that the traynor ycv20 (or the wr) would be perfect for me, dont know why. I found a great deal on one, but I cant go play it. Nor will I be able to get to one in another store to play before I have to decide if I want to buy it. So the question is, does anybody have one that have have played some higher gain stuff through. I am not talking ultra high gain, just higher than classic rock gain. I have read some reviews that say the gain is not that great, but many others rave about the amp overall. No mention of higher gain though. So I need clips or something. I may put a g12t75 in a sealed box as an extension speaker and use it if I want this sound, and to be truthful it wont be my main sound. But, I grew up playing metal so I need to be able to at least get some of this out of the amp.

Re: traynor for higher gain ?

I've used that amp in a jam setting and you can't coax near enough gain to do anything beyond harder blues or mild classic rock. Even with an OD in front, it just didn't cut it.

mild classic rock ? It has to be able to do at least harder classic rock. Crap

Re: traynor for higher gain ?

the YCV50Blue is the Traynor you want for high gain.

for the ycv20 model, you need a pedal -- just get a MI crunch box or tube zone and you're set...

Sorry, was thinking about the other thread. I dont want high gain. I do need to be able to do harder classic rock type tones, as well as blues rock. And some cleans.
I would like to be able to get some higher gain, but mostly for playing around the house. I was kinda hoping that I would be able to use just the amp in some situations and not my pedal board. I currently have a twin tube classic and delay, will add chorus and other stuff like that. If I am going to have to bring pedals, I think I would rather buy a single channel one, save a little money and spend that extra money on a pedal that I need to get what I want.

Re: traynor for higher gain ?

my YCV80 does quite a nice JCM800 impression on Channel 1 and the boost pushes it great into more gain or pushes a solo up front...

I'm not sure how Diff. the circuits are between the 15watt and the 80watt...but it (ycv80)can get into some heavier tones if you really want...

Re: traynor for higher gain ?

Go with the Laney if you want more versatile gain usage and a great clean channel.

Re: traynor for higher gain ?

How much is the one you're looking at selling for?
