Re: Traynor YCV40WR

true...but this one's in really good condition and has had a MV mod done to it...plus i can get a matching celestion loaded 1x12 closed back cab with it for just a bit over $400 total shipped for both?!

plus i already sold my Blues Junior...plus i'm not very patient...plus i'm excited...plus i wanna type NEW STUFF ROCKS!!! LOL!!!

that sounds like a great deal then. i'd really like to hear it with the mods so can you post a clip when you get it?

i'd love to...i think my buddy is getting his recording studio back in operation soon...so i'll see what we can do!

i definitely think this amp is gonna be a step in the right direction for me...one of these days i'll be able to pick up something with 4xEL84 config! i know that is a tone that i love...however...in the meantime the AC-TONE side of my Carl Martin pedal will get me there nicely!

i've been looking at getting a Traynor combo... a whole bunch of their models have my eye... right now the new Custom Special combos is one i may have to look really hard at! But the more Vintage voiced Red covered ones i also have a thing for... the smaller one with the Greenback speaker looks interesting!!!!

lets know what you think of your Traynor when you get it HOSS.... $400 shipped was a steal!

Another thing i love about Traynor is it's Canadian.... Traynor and Godin.... Not that they are Canadian so much as they are North American Made goods that work well and are priced low.... In the same price range as many imported goods....

i totally love the fact that it's made in North America too!!! i'm looking forward to getting to know this amp...i'm sure it will be different...i've basically cut my teeth on the Blues Junior while learning to play the electric guitar...so i know it's gonna be different!

Re: Traynor YCV40WR

honestly, i'd say that if you're on a tight budget get a traynor. IMO, after having owned both the 40 red and 50 blue, they're not as good sounding as some of the big ones like laney, marshall, fender, etc... i'm saying this without knowing anything about the mods.

but having directly compared the ycv40wr, hotrod deluxe, and deville, i have ot say that teh fenders just sound better to my ears. i like the overdrive on the fenders better and the cleans are better. as far as the ycv50 blue, i've compared it directly to a dsl401, a dsl100, and the el diablo. overall, although the 50 blue was a cool and reliable amp, i still think the marshalls and genz-benz sounded better.

so my opinion, and i'm sure there will be those who disagree, is that you might want to spend more cash and get something you really want. like i said, that's just me. good luck though, i'll be looking forward to some clips if you do decide to go that route.

i've always heard that the overdrive on the hotrods wasn't very good at all and that's what people liked about the traynor over them and that the cleans weren't quite fender (who's cleans are), but very adequate?!

i like the overdrive. i think it's because a lot of people expected the amp to do something else and criticized it based on that. it's kind of a mild overdrive that sonds pretty sweet to me. you can go all the way up to classic rock though. the cleans were good on both the deville and the deluxe. they might not be a fender purists idea of clean, but they do indeed sound good. i'd check them out if i were you. i know someone on ebay who would separate with her new condition hotrod deluxe for $360 w/next day shipping if you're interested.

Re: Traynor YCV40WR

The drive tones on the Traynor YCV's are worlds better than the Hot Rod Amps...

maybe on the ycv50, but not hte red IMO. then again, that is subjective. some people would go either way, so playing them and comparing them directly if possible is the best route to take.

Re: Traynor YCV40WR

well its all about personal taste and so on...

but i have to say that anyone ive ever let play my Traynor who owns a hot rod really just hated themselves for not knowing about or checking out Traynor...

Though the HR series has better cleans...With the Traynor not being awful in that department...

though it could be something on the YCV80? I have to say that overall the Traynor will finish ahead of its fender counterpart in any race except for the cleans contest where it will do well...But its no Fender

Re: Traynor YCV40WR

hey lo-fi...how do you like that lopo line 2x12...the 1x12 i'm trying to get is a lopo line as well!?

Re: Traynor YCV40WR

its great quality baltic birch ply. switchcraft jacks and decent wiring harness included. Velcro Attached Grill not screwed on metal mesh covered though.

For the $171 shipped it was a great deal. then getting the 2 WGS's for $62 shipped...

great high quality low price products

Re: Traynor YCV40WR

Re: Traynor YCV40WR

Careful about buying those red Traynors . . . there are two models. One is a 15 watt EL-84 amp with a greenback, one is a 40 watt 5881 amp with a V30. I found the larger amp to sound much much nicer.
