Trembuckers in angled pocket?

My Strat has a Floyd Rose and I'm putting on a new pickguard with one angled S.D. Custom Custom in the bridge position. Since the humbucker will be angled should I get a trembucker or original type?

Well standard spacing works fine even in normal position too. neither of mine are trembuckers but they line up fine as is.

Re: Trembuckers in angled pocket?

What is the advantage of an angled pocket anyways? More treble response?

Re: Trembuckers in angled pocket?

Whichever side of the pickup is closer to the bridge will have emphasized highs on those strings, while the other side will have more emphasis on lower frequencies.

I prefer a reverse slant. Much like certain famous lefthanded guitarists playing upside down righthanded guitars...

Re: Trembuckers in angled pocket?

Before trembuckers were around, putting a humbucker in a Strat with vintage spaced (meaning wider) bridges put the strings way off from the poles. Angling them was the only way to get things lined up. If you look at EVH's Frankenstein, you can see the bridge pickup is angled a bit to get the poles to line up as much as possible. It does do the trick. Then, Kramer came along and did the same thing with a couple of their models and the rest is history. Now, with the spacing on the newer 2-point Trems on Strats, the poles do line up much better even when straight. But vintage 6-screw trems have a wider spacing and this whole angled thing came to be before the narrower bridges came along.

I'd also like to know what angling the pick up does.

Ed did that like ErikH said cos he thought that it was necessary to get a pole under the outside strings. Early Kramers had standard spaced pups too for a while.

I did purchase a new '87/88'ish F1000 that had the angled route but a trem spaced pup in it.

It makes no difference either way. It's only like 1/10th of an inch dif:)
I've use both spacings in slanted and straight configurations.

The only exception is my Deluxe Strat. I wanted trem spaced cos I paid $1500 for the guitar and want to keep it as close to original in terms of pickups and things as I can. So the Duncan in it is a TB-4:approve:
