I tried one of these babies out on Friday down at a music shop after my music audition at Keene State, in New Hampshire. It was a 2500 or 2550 model I believe. Honestly, I was not impressed and did not think it was worthe the $600 used price tag. I'll say that the crunch channel was great for rhythem playing, but sucked for lead work. It sounded fuzzy and had that type of scratchy noise that you get out of low quality Swuier/Crate solid states have. Maybe I just plugged into a bad head and there are better ones out there. Maybe my JS1000 just isn't really suited for this Marshall. But there was just no control for lead work, it wasn't really tight and wrapped, you know what I mean? Well ha anyone else ever been disapointed in something they thought would be a great product? Maybe I should've tried a distortion pedal..

It's very nice and feels great in my hands. The day I went looking for a new guitar, I tried an RG570, Jem7v, some new RG made of African wood, and an RG 2550. Out of all of those guitars, the JS felt the most comfortable in my hands. The neck is thin but not too thin and is great for my large hands and I would even assume so for someone with small hands. The clean tones are amazing and are great or jazz and blues. It's incredibly articulate and accurate. The coil taps are great for doing hendrix type blues, the humbuckers can give a nice bite to any clean seting. The distortion is insane, it makes my Roland sound GREAT! Totally thick and creamy to sharp and fierce tones. Sounds great for any type of music too, blues, rock, metal, you name it. I highly suggest this guitar to any player because of it's verstility. It's an insane deal for only a little over a grand.

Most marhall fans never cared much for the 900 series myself included. Marshallss have always been "spotty" for quality of sound (having to dig through several to find one that sounds really good), and the 900 series were the worst offenders, IMO.
I had a Dual Reverb for all of a month that actually was one of the decent ones (EL34, very early model..I understand later models with diff tubes were worse), but it just didn't sound like a Marshall. Thin and buzzy.
The TSL/DSL's IMO are in the same boat. They seem more consistent in quality of sound, but I jus don't care for the voicing.
800's were decent, but really Marshall hit it's holy grail era from 1965-1975, IMO. Everything else has since has become progressively worse. MV's in particular I think destroy the unique Marshall tone. There's a reason most folks seek out plexis, early 70's models, and the reissues. Either for stock use or modded. The tone foundation is there.

The only JCM900 users who's tone really kicked my ass are/were Carcass. Then again, those were combined with a 5150.

The JCM 900 series in my opinion was and still is,the worst sounding Marshall amp ever made! It's buzzy and sterile as hell sounding....I much prefer the earlier 800 and non-master 4 input Marshall amps and I also like the JCM 2000 heads for the money...

Isn't Marshall about due for a new amp? The DSL's were a worthy offering, and the new handwired ones are cool, yet expensive. I think it's time for Marshall to come out with a new channel switching amp that leaves the DSL's and TSL's in the dust.

I definitely don't think your alone in wanting that.
Although, I'm pretty happy with my rectoverb at the moment. Hey GJ, what's that sweet guitar with the carving in your avatar (sorry if you've already answered this).
