Tried a Cyber Twin today....

Went to GC today..

Wow what an odd amp. Those moving knobs scared me a little. I was also really disapointed in the tone. However, the amount of fender amps modled is crazy. Theres about everykind you can think of. In the end, theres no way in hell id pay 1200 bucks for it.

For anyone who owns one...

Does it just take a while to set dial in the right tones? I mean I've heard some great reviews and it just wasn't that great for me.

Re: Tried a Cyber Twin today....

I think there are a couple of guys on the forum who play them. It's like anything gear related, what works for one may be garbage for annother. I always worry about more things to go wrong and break with moving parts like that, but it sure is cool looking. I played on in a music store about a year ago. Some of the models were pretty cool, and others were just so so...like with any modeling amp I think. It would be a cool amp if you were in a cover band, and needed a ton of different tones on tap. I'll bet it's pretty good for direct recording as well.

I'm a little more old fashioned when it comes to gear, but I do own a Boss GT-6.

Re: Tried a Cyber Twin today....

I've had one for about 3 years or so (not the new SE). IMO the presets really don't do anything to sell the amp-in fact, I don't use any of them. The spinning dials freak a lot of people out-don't know why...never had any problems with this at all.

As for tone, I'd like to have the opportunity to set it side by side to the other Fenders.

From what I've tried, it matches the Vibro King nicely, the deluxe reverb (DRRI) is very close. As for the drive circuitries, I think each section is different for sure-accurrate-I can't say.

If I kick up the drive in the CT it does as good of a job as a Sparkle drive, kicks the shizzizle out of any Boss drive/distortion pedals, but it can't quite keep up with my buddies Fulldrive 2, or his SIB Fat Drive.

The reverb, tremolo, chorus and delay settings are nice as is the chorus. Alot of the other stuff doesn't really appeal to me so I never use it.
Definitely not a metal amp, but it can get up and go for some blues and clean tones.

The one thing about this amp is that, even though I have a myriad of tonal possibilities at my fingertips (whether you guys think the tone's good or bad), I still gravitate towards a moderately driven Blackface setting with some delay, occasional chorus and tremolo.

It does take some time to really dial it in. I've saved some of my earlier settings and when I revisit them, I almost puke becuase the tone was not what I wanted-so I'm figuring it out for sure. That's true with all amps, though...

I've often asked myself if I'd be happier with a Deluxe Reverb or Vibrolux, and a handful of pedals.

I think there's plenty of marketing with the multi-effects amps and modelers out there. Some of you may like switching tones in a very diverse way, but I just like a gritty, sparkly Tele.

In short, I like mine, the boutique amps I've tried are better, but it does pretty much all I ask it to for my level of playing and ears.

...got mine for a bit under a grand...

What gets me is that if they get bumped and break.... who will fix it? I only know tube repair guys, so I'd have to send it to fender and pay for shpping and all that stuff if it broke.

Thats cool. If I found one that cheap, and spent some time actually dialing stuff in I might consider it

If you're trying out modeling amps, give the Vox Balvetronix series a shot.

The knobs are solid-I mean, when was the last time you knocked one off? Fender gives it a 5 year transferrable warranty covered at any Fender parts dealer. I take mine in and out of my truck 1-2x/week for the last 3 years or so-no problems whatsoever.

Re: Tried a Cyber Twin today....

Most modeling amps take a few days of tweaking till you find the great tones.
Still, I'm convinced that the best option for modeling amps is to buy the head version, then use it on 'tube amp quality' cabs. If you level the playing field by using high end cabs with modelers, you'll realize where much of the good tone comes from.
So far, my favorite modelers are Vox heads, Vetta's, and the POD Pro's.

Re: Tried a Cyber Twin today....

I've gigged and rehearsed with my own CT for over 3 years now...Love mine..I've had 0 problems with it...Mine has been very consistent and it's a versatile amp...You have to dial this amp in,it's not really a plug in and get instant great tone....I love tube amps, but I liked the tone and the versatility it offered for playing out with it..
