Tried an A5 in my PG/Custom Hybrid

...in the middle position of a 3 humbucker guitar. I had an A2 in, and that sounded good, but i wanted to see what the change would do. Well..so far not too thrilled. It seems more muddy, with the bass boosted, and the mids dropped. I was hoping the boost in treble would counteract this, and give some interesting character. I'll keep it in a couple weeks and try adjusting poles, etc. and see if it grows on me.
But just in case :) anyone want to suggest a good pickup for this position? Something that splits well, with alot of clarity. I'll probably go back to the A2 and be fine with that, but i'm willing to consider other options.
BTW, does anyone know if the middle HB in the original Black Beauty was a neck or bridge type humbucker?

I live the idea of a Phat Cat in the middle position of a 3 humbucker guitar... coil taps on the humbuckers... imagine the tonal possibilites!

I am finding with the hybrids that the A5 seems to cop the VH vibe but I prefer the A2 for any other application. Its a little more transparent in so far as it allows me to get a variety of clean and dirty tones without putting its own recognizable "stamp" on it.

I think with the middle position, the A2 kept it transparent enough for really nice cleans, and nice bluesy tones. The A5 seems to make a little woofy with some unneeded growl on top. Biggest change was I lost the "spank" when i had the mid and bridge coils split. That was my favorite sound! :(
I will try the phat cat combo out sometime...maybe after i get another guitar. For now i'll squirrel away the A5 for later projects.
