New Cort dealership in town. Had to see what it's about.
A very neat store, with very friendly salesman. I first tried this KX Custom:
Which is basically a Ibanez SZR. SD 59/JB stock with coil splits, tonepro bridge, locking tuners and graphite nut.
Great guitar, but so close to my SZ that it's pointless. And I didn't like the neck pickup sound... it's not as deep as my SZ.
I blame the two extra frets, the placement is closer to the bridge.
But it's a fantastic Hard Rock guitar, super easy to play and the tones are very versatile.
Then I tried this M520:
Sweet Jesus. I could happily toss my Strat away and forget about it with this one.
The Alnico IV P90s on it have a sweet bark and the clean tones on this thing were absolutely glorious.
The dirty sounds are raunchy, not very thick but clear and defined without being harsh. All mahogany. Pure butter to play.
The price for it? 10% more than a new Std. Squier Strat costs. It's a no brainer.
I liked it so much (more than the KX despite being half the price) that I decided to try the top of the range. The M Custom and the Z Custom:
And they blew me away. Piezo pickup on the M, Duncans, excellent hardware.
The playability is outstanding, the tones were thick as hell, and I didn't try the piezo but it's evident how it should work.
And they're GORGEOUS.
They look cheesy on the pictures (way too much light or something, WTF?) but trust me, they look good.
Price? A bit steeper than the top axes of the PRS SE Series. An excellent price if you ask me.
I was baffled by how good these guitars are. The M520 particuarly kicked my ass hard, I loved those P90s.
The price/quality ratio is ridiculous.
Give these guitars a shot if you have a dealer nearby, guys.
