Tried TS-9 for the 1st time...wow.

Well, I have to admit it. I've used tons of different guitars and amps since I started playing almost 20 years ago, but I had never tried a TS-9. You know, I just always overlooked them. I was at a store yesterday looking at some high end pedals and thought, "Ah, what the h*ll, I'll try one of the TS-9's". Well, when my BF Bandmaster and SF Bandmaster Reverb are up about half way (starting to breakup) and you boost with the TS on about 50% gain it's pretty amazing. I've been a user of Boss pedals for years but this TS is just a cut above for what I'm playing these days (blues rock). I should be slapped for not trying one sooner, being a gear freak like I am.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Re: Tried TS-9 for the 1st time...wow.

yeah, ibanez's high end pedals are soooo much better than boss's

really i've never tried a boss pedal i've been 100% satisfied with, but i'm 100% satisfied with both my ts9 and my ad9

Re: Tried TS-9 for the 1st time...wow.

BTW, my Bandmasters sound great through the cab you sold me Drew; it's the 2x12 Avatar with the Swamp Thangs. Those speakers have serious bass.

Ibanez 9 series are the jewels of stopm boxes, wellcome to the club, get John Spina to work on it and you would be blown away.

Dude, I have another for you, I have TS9 and CS9 and I just love that chorus, its amazing. Tell me about AD9 - can it substitute subtle reverb? Thanks. Sorry to hijack the thread.

Re: Tried TS-9 for the 1st time...wow.

yeah it can do the subtle reverb thing, i like it because it sounds so **** natural. If you've ever played a loud amp outside, and heard it echo, it's kinda like that. More defined of course, but it doesn't really sound so much like an effect as it does a part of sound

it can't do long delays but i really haven't ever wished it did

and i'm glad the cab is working out, those are awesome speakers, nothing else can get close to their sound

i was actually lookin into adding a TS9 to my repertoire of pedals (for the past 2 years actually haha) I have the Boss BD-2 blues driver, think it could use a nice partner:scratchch

Re: Tried TS-9 for the 1st time...wow.

yeah i run those 2

but my bd is HEAVILY modded

sounds more like a more articulate big muff, actually

This thing will do SRV all day through my amps...might be a good match for you.

Re: Tried TS-9 for the 1st time...wow.

I had a Fulltone Fulldrive II MOSFET 10th anniversary and a Fulltone OCD originally as my two overdrive pedals. Then, I sold those two and got a Keeley modded TS9 and I never looked back. The TS9 is PERFECT for my application. It's always on. I prefer fiming the volume on the pedal to get my loud distortion than to just crank up the tweed amp dry. Warms up my sound a little bit, without the harsh mids of a stock tube screamer. And of course, it is a perfect partner to my strat! Nails the SRV tone! I might get another tube screamer (a TS808, what the heck) for my Les Paul settings (higher in gain and tone settings vs the way I have it with my strat)

waiting for the Tube King to debut :)

I use a few Boss pedals, A CE2, a CH1 and a DD3. I also have a tubescreamer..... in fact I have 2. One is a stock RI the other was modded by our own StratDeluxer. I would recommend you send that puppy to John and have him work his magic. His modded TS9 is lightyears better than any stock RI. I use it with the clean channel on my Shiva. I also have another overdrive made by Xssive. This is based on a TS808 and modified from there. Its more versatile than the TS9, but with certain amps and certian needs I like the TS9 just fine. Its a great OD pedal.

Ditto. I got a good deal on a keeley mod ts9 and I love that thing. When I have it on, my orange sounds insane, so much so that when I turn it off it's like something is missing. The orange sounds great on its own, but with the ts9 boosting it, it rips.

Dude tell me about it, just checked Musician's Curse yesterday if numb nuts listed it yet. CANT WAIT should be awesome a real Iby box with a tube cooked for real not a chirstmass ornament.

You I've listened to a sample on MF of TS808 and loved actually, is it a bit thing and brittle ? yes ... but I still liked it, of course Spinas TS9 has the gloss and cream that is beyond analogy, but I have to say I loved those clips as well, I am an overdrive junkie I guess.

ah a keeley mod. what does that bring to the table, tonally speaking?

Re: Tried TS-9 for the 1st time...wow.

better range with the gain knob (down cleans up better, cranked gives you more gain). They also change the main chip (go to robertkeeley.com) and gets rid of that nasty mid range hump associated with stock units. No comparison to the stock units, way better IMO.

There are a bunch of people who modify Tube Screamers so check them all out and see which you like best! good luck!

I don't have one, so I shouldn't talk...but, I thought the "mid hump" was one of the characteristics of this unit?

Re: Tried TS-9 for the 1st time...wow.

according to keeley, the stock units have pretty much all mids and nothing else. (like on an amp, mids dimed, treble and bass at 0). So the keeley mod balances it out by increasing the bass and treble I guess and then lowering the mids a tad. Im not sure of all the sonic changes and what not (just read the website information) and it really describes what the changes are. All I know is that I like the Keeley modded TSs sound a billion times better than the stock sound

Thanks for directing me to the Keeley website...very cool, with lots of info.

Re: Tried TS-9 for the 1st time...wow.

No problem dude! I only have experience with the Keeley Tube Screamers, there are a ton of guys who modify them, all of them really good (I believe John Spina, Stratdeluxer, Analogman, tons of guys, do a search on the forum you should find them). I am 100% satisfied with my Tube Screamer! Good luck if you ever want to pull the trigger on one ureself!
