Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

I emailed a question to Seymour Duncan but they never responded, therefore I am assuming they won't read any feedback I might send, so I'm posting it here.

I recently bought a set of triple-shot bezels to put in my PRS SE because I didn't want to drill holes for a bunch of switches, but it turns out I'm going to have to do that anyway.

While the idea is good, I'm shocked at how cheap these things are. They are a toy. They might as well be made of rubber. One of them is even warped (it is rounded away from the pickup). The bezels that came with this guitar (and it is a cheap/budget guitar) are twice as sturdy as the triple-shots.

Considering the lack of quality of the bezels themselves, I'm sure I can look forward to failed switches in the future.

At $50 a set for such a simple thing I would have thought these would be of professional quality.

I love Duncan pickups, but I will never, ever, buy Duncan accessories again.

Have a nice day.

P.S. Oops on the title typo... lol

I have a pair for over 2 years, I got no problems. only issue is sometimes I accidentally flip the switches on my bridge pup.

Triple Shot user since September and no issues so far.

I completely disagree with your assessment.

HTH,

I did buy them new.

Here is a pic. Notice the top one is warped, and the bottom one is hard to see, but that's slightly warped at the top also. Those skinny edges are the part that's flimsy. Granted, they don't have to support anything, but they are warped because they're so thin and cheap. Top push that edge against the pickup, it takes at least three times the force on the bezels that came with the guitar.

There were no screws in the package. The screws are the ones that were originally in the guitar.

Edit: The height adjustment screws and springs are the ones that came with the pickups.

Did they come in the package warped, or are they warped because the screw holes didn't quite line up on the body?

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

That should not be your main concern. The weak point in the Triple Shot system seems to be where the wires from the micro switches connect to the circuit board going to the pickup. They are very delicate, not happy with lots of flexing as would occur in switching out pickups. Once you install one, I would advise leaving it or, if you switch it out, keep the pickup with the ring.

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

I'm too disappointed in the quality of the triple shots. The plastic ring is flimsier than most imports and the wire connections are, as Demanic said, delicate and prone to breakage.

I honestly thought the triple shots are a great idea but I wouldn't buy it again until they improve on the quality.

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

I will use them, but like I said, once you install a pickup with them, keep the pickup and the ring together. That and maybe a touch of hot glue at the wire junctions.

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

I have triple shots in my Les Paul (59s) and ES-335 (PRails) and love the functionality. I've not had problems with warping, but the in two of the four I have, the circuit board has come away from the bezel once installed, meaning that the switches drop into the bezel. In both, it's taken Superglue to keep them in place, and there's a real risk of the glue getting on the switches no matter how careful the application.

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

I'm guessing that you mistakenly bought the arched ones instead of the flat ones. I would think that would cause warping.

It looks like you bought the wrong ones and the installation is what warped them..
Those may have been arched top ones and you needed flat ones..

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

I got my first set in 2008 or 2009, when they first came out. Lovely stuff.

I've seen warped rings before and it's more often than not the case of misaligned holes. Even a slight misalignment of 1mm can cause this problem to occur. take out the screws and post a pic of the rings at that state. If they're still warped then you're more positive of the causes.

Re: Triple-Shot Feedback for Seymour Duncan

Are you also left handed? It appears that you bought the arched top ones and put them in upside down. As far as the quality on them, I've played guitars that had them, and they were incredibly solid pieces.

My oldest stepson is just like this, he'll beat a square peg thru a round hold and wonder why it's effed up..
That boy could break an anvil in 30 minutes..

Well, it's not really a matter of effing it up, but if he got the wrong part and didn't know it, that would explain the issues he's having. Particularly if he's trying to make them left handed. The arched top triple shots are not set up for lefthandedess.
