Triple Shot - switch not working

I bought a set of Triple Shots but one (bridge) arrived broken - the switch part was detached from the ring.

While I'm waiting for a replacement I thought I might get this one working so I wiring in a pickup and tested and all seemed ok so I superglued the switch board into the ring, then installed. However, the switches now don't seem to work - the pickup is in full humbucker mode no matter what switch arrangement I select.

Is there anything I can do on this - is superglue conductive and maybe if I carefully remove it the thing will be back working? Or should I just throw it away and wait for replacement part (which could take a month or so)?

Re: Triple Shot - switch not working

Not sure if superglue is conductive or not to be honest. Did they all work BEFORE you superglued it back on? If so, I'm guessing that's the culprit or that somehow something got misaligned during the reattachment process. Either way it's a moot point though... might as well just use the new one when it comes!

Re: Triple Shot - switch not working

How firmly did you handle the switch PCB whilst repositioning it? The ribbon connector is extremely vulnerable to damage right where it meets the PCB.

Not sure what it was in the end - I took off the switch and cleaned the board with acetone, put it back on (without glue) and it works fine now. But I don't think I would trust it.

Re: Triple Shot - switch not working

Items such as the Switchcraft three-way toggle and the CRL lever switch were adopted for use in electric guitars partly because they were available cheaply as military surplus and partly because they were, so to speak, combat tested. These designs exhibit a robustness that, sadly, the Triple Shot mounting surround is unable to equal.

Re: Triple Shot - switch not working

I've superglued a couple of the PCBs back onto the mounting ring and learned the hard way that you have to be VERY precise, because (even a little) excess glue runs into the slider for one or both switches. Gel-based glue is better than liquid. The good news in my situation was that it was a purely mechanical issue, in that the dried glue just stopped one of the switches moving - so I could break the seal and get it back to A-OK without too much trouble.

I'm with Funkfingers, the design of TS is wonderful in use, but far from robust in practice.

+2

The Triple Shots are great, but it's a good thing that, once you have it all put together, the only things that move are the switches.

Just be VERY CAREFUL when you're installing them!

Glue got into the switch, and I think it is toast. You might be able to fix it (worth trying, I guess), but another is on the way...just be very careful when installing the new one.
